Rachel Lee, violin

At the age of 19, violinist Rachel Lee is regarded as one of the most prodigious and promising talents on the concert stage. In February 2007 she made a successful debut with the Chicago Symphony and Maestro Semyon Bychkov, in which according to The Chicago Tribune:
“Her sound is big and luscious…her bow work combines dazzling dexterity…not only did she pour out endless floods of ardent lyricism in the slow movement, but she also dispatched the finale’s whirling bravura with irresistible panache…one will be following her ascent with great interest”.
Last season she also made debuts with the Seattle Symphony, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony at the Aspen Music Festival, Colorado Springs and Rochester Philharmonic.
Rachel’s European concerto debut was made last season, performing the Sibelius Concerto with the Berlin Staatskapelle and Maestro Mikko Franck to an overwhelming response. Further European engagements include opening the Graz Philharmonic’s 2007-2008 season with a performance of Paganini Violin Concerto No 1 under Johannes Fritzsch.
This seasons recital debuts include engagements at the Mecklenburg Vorpommern Festival, Verbier Festival and Moritzburg Festival.
Born in Chicago in 1988, Rachel began her violin studies at the age of four, and in 1996 moved to New York to study with the late Dorothy DeLay. At just nine years of age, she was the youngest musician selected to give a recital as part of the 1998 La Jolla Chamber Music Society’s Prodigy Series, where she was described by the San Diego Daily Transcript as “a violinist of utmost stature, a performer with maturity beyond her years.”
Rachel currently studies with Itzhak Perlman and attends Harvard College. She was previously at the Pre-College Division of the Julliard School.
