Liturgy Committee (LitCom)

Meets weekly on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. (Dunster Small Dining Hall)

Ever wonder who chooses the songs and writes the petitions that you hear in Mass every week? Those tasks are done by the students of the Liturgy Committee (LitCom). LitCom meets every week on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the Dunster Small Dining Hall  to plan the Student Mass. We begin by reading and discussing the Scripture selections for the week, searching for common themes and sharing our own insights. We then choose hymns and write petitions that correspond to the readings and current events. In an effort to continually improve the Student Mass, we solicit new ideas and listen to concerns from both the committee members and the congregation. The Liturgy Committee is a rewarding and enjoyable way to get involved in the planning of the Student Mass, and we welcome all who are interested to join us at Tuesday meetings. Please contact Marissa Long (mlong@fas.harvard.edu) for more information, or to share any suggestions that you might have.

Liturgy of the Hours: Evening Prayer

Meets weekly on Tuesdays at 5:20 p.m. (St. Paul Parish Center Chapel)

The Liturgy of the Hours has been the official prayer of the Church since the time of King David, some 3,000 years ago. The Liturgy of the Hours group continues this huge tradition by chanting one "hour" (usually the evening hour, or vespers) monastic-style in a beautiful blend of psalmody, hymns, petitions, and more. Come to the parish center chapel (Mt. Auburn Street entrance) at 5:20 p.m. on Tuesdays, or contact Tom Capps (tcapps@fas.harvard.edu) for more information. You may also subscribe to the csa-vespers email list by visiting the website listed below: http://lists.hcs.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/csa-vespers/.

CSA Rejoice

Once a month, the CSA organizes a large group program featuring praise and worship music and a student faith talk. We also encourage Christian students of other denominations to join us in singing songs of praise. Join us in lifting our hearts, minds, and voices to Christ! For more information please contact Nico Lewine (nlewine@fas.harvard.edu).

CSA Choir

Rehearsals are held weekly on Sundays at 3:30 p.m. (Lower Church, St. Paul Parish)

The CSA Choir sings each Sunday evening at the 5:00 p.m. Student Mass. The choir is a non-audition group, which welcomes all members of the Harvard community interested in contributing to the liturgy through music. Rehearsals are held each Sunday from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. (when Mass begins). Seasonal rehearsals are also held on Thursdays evenings as Christmas approaches, so that the choir can rehearse for its annual Candlemas Christmas concert. We are always open to new members and would love to have you join us! If you have any questions, please contact the directors: Kay Leopold (kleopold@fas.harvard.edu) and Jason Murray (murray2@fas.harvard.edu).

Eucharistic Ministry

Eucharistic Ministers are responsible for the distribution of the Sacrament of Holy Communion during the weekly Student Mass. Being a Eucharistic Minister is a great way to be involved in the Mass, as well as interact with the Catholic community. Additionally, we play a special role in other ministries at various times during the year: for instance, we help with the distribution of sacramental ashes on Ash Wednesday. If you have served as a Eucharistic Minister at your home parish or even if you have never served at all, you are welcome to become involved. Training sessions are usually conducted once a semester. Please contact Katherine Calle (kcalle@fas.harvard.edu) if you are interested in joining.

Lectoring

The Student Lectoring Program organizes the service of volunteer lectors at Mass in proclaiming the Word. It seeks to involve students in the CSA in a capacity that allows them to take time to reflect upon their own spirituality while also sharing their public speaking skills and enthusiasm for the Scriptures with the Catholic community. By thoughtfully proclaiming the readings to the congregation, lectors communicate the depth and richness of the Scriptures. Coordinators ensure that lectors are prepared for Mass, create a regular schedule for each semester, and send reminders and the text of the readings to lectors. If you are interested in becoming a lector at the Student Mass, please email the lector coordinators: Jeff Kwong (jkwong@fas.harvard.edu).

Rosary Prayer Group

Meets weekly on Wednesdays at 6:07 p.m. (Upper Church, St. Paul Parish)
(During Lent, we also meet on Mondays at 5:07 p.m. in addition to the usual time.)

Rosary Prayer Group meets once a week in devotion to Our Blessed Mother. The Rosary is a time to reflect on particular events in the lives of Jesus and Mary. After praying, Rosary Prayer Group goes to an upper-class dining hall for dinner to get to know each other, creating a friendly community. New participants are always welcome! A Rosary and an informational sheet (with responses and prayers) are provided to any member who needs them. If you are interested, please email Chiara Kovarik (ckovarik@fas.harvard.edu). You may also subscribe to the csa-rosary email list by visiting the website listed below: http://lists.hcs.harvard.edu//mailman/listinfo/csa-rosary/.

Art and Environment Team

The Art and Environment Team coordinates preparation of decorations for the Lower Church appropriate to major feast days and the different liturgical seasons. If you are interested in helping, please contact Andrea Daniel (aldaniel@fas.harvard.edu) for more information.
