Commencement Marshalls: Nomination Guidelines
Nomination Guidelines Each year, six graduating students in GSAS are chosen as commencement marshals. These marshals, who lead graduating GSAS students during the ceremony, are chosen by a committee of fellow graduate students on the basis of their accomplishments during graduate school, specifically their service on behalf of the graduate school and graduate student community. Other factors are taken into account, but this is primarily not an academic honor. Four Ph.D. recipients and two Master's degree recipients are chosen. Each department may nominate as many of its students as it wants. In order for the committee to make its selections, the nominee's curriculum vitae, a letter of nomination from the department administrator, chair, or director of graduate studies, and any letters of recommendation the nominee wishes the committee to consider must be uploaded to the Graduate Student website.
