GSAS Student Leadership Opportunities
Many graduate students serve as House Tutors and Freshman Proctors, interacting with and advising undergraduates
on a regular basis. Proctors and Resident Tutors live among other college students, fulfilling the role of advisor and
counselor. Some graduate students also continue to work in the graduate school environment as Resident Assistants or Graduate Dormitory Council Officers in
the GSAS Resident Halls, as Dudley Fellows or officers of the Graduate Student Council.

The Graduate Dormitory Council (GDC) is a voluntary and independent student organization with the primary goal of improving the quality of life in the GSAS Residence Halls. The GDC organizes and funds a variety of social events throughout the year. It also provides a number of goods and services for the residents, including: Televisions in various lounges of the residence halls, several of which have a VCR attached; Sports equipment, barbecue grills, and a VCR which may be borrowed by the residents (arrangements for this are made with the equipment officer). GDC meetings are held on the first Sunday of each month. They are open to all residents, and all are invited to propose social events they would like to organize in the residence halls for which funding is needed, to express concerns about residential life, and to vote on the issues raised at the meeting. At least one volunteer from each floor is encouraged to act as the GDC representative for that floor and to attend GDC meetings every month. GDC Officers are elected annually in the late spring. The GDC Officers for the 2005-2006 Academic Year are here: Graduate Dormitory Council Officers.
Graduate Student Council Officers
The Graduate Student Council (GSC) represents the interests of the GSAS student body in academic, residential, and administrative matters that directly affect graduate students. Issues related to athletics, medical care, transportation and safety, technology, and child care have all been important on the GSC agenda. The Council is composed of representatives from each of the 50+ departments and programs in GSAS. Representatives act as liaisons between their departments and the Council as a whole. Through monthly meetings, open discussion, and committee work, the Council sets its policy and working goals. As a GSAS student--and as a member of the GSC--you have full right to take part in the Council by attending and participating in monthly meetings. The GSC officers this year are listed here: Graduate Student Council Officers
