Please join us for the CSBi Symposium, January 12, 2006 on the Systems Biology of Stem Cells. Started in 2003, the annual CSBi symposium has brought together participants interested in systems biology from around the country. The 2006 Symposium features prominent speakers from MIT and other academic institutions in the US and abroad who will address critical problems at the interface of stem cells and systems biology.

J. RICHARD HACKMAN is the Edgar Pierce Professor of Social and Organizational Psychology at Harvard University. His research includes studies of the behavior and performance of work teams, social influences on individual behavior in organizations, and the leadership of groups and organizations. Recent research includes studies of group and organizational factors that influence the performance of aircraft cockpit crews, a series of studies of leadership and ensemble dynamics in symphony and chamber orchestras, and research on the dynamics of teams that analyze intelligence data.

Hackman is on the editorial board of several professional journals, and has consulted to a variety of organizations on issues having to do work design, leadership, and team effectiveness. He has published numerous articles and seven books, the most recent being "Leading Teams: Setting the Stage for Great Performances." Hackman was awarded the Sixth Annual AIR Creative Talent Award in the field of "Measurement and Evaluation: Individual and Group Behavior,"
the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award of the American Psychological Association's division on industrial and organizational psychology, and both the Distinguished Educator Award and the Distinguished Scholar Award of the Academy of Management. In 2004, "Leading Teams" won the Academy of Management's Terry Award for the most outstanding management book of the year. Hackman is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and of the American Psychological Society, and in 1998 was Hewlett Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University.

THE ADVANCEMENT OF WOMEN IN THE WORKPLACE A Discussion with ANNE WEISBERG, the Senior Advisor to the Deloitte Women's Initiative (WIN)

Learn about national strategies for ensuring gender-balanced representation in leadership positions and consider issues for working mothers.

Ms. Weisberg is a lawyer who directed the Catalyst study of women in the legal profession, Women in Law: Making the Case (Catalyst 2001) and co-authored Everything a Working Mother Needs to Know (Doubleday 1994), a guide to workplace issues for women who have careers and are starting families.
