All About Apthorp House

Teas: Friday afternoons once a month from 4:30-6pm. All Adams House residents, friends and relations are most welcome! Great food, music, talking, making new friends, hanging out, relaxing. If you want to bake or cook or help set up, or work on a cultural or musical theme for one of the teas, call the Masters at 3-7878. For a schedule of teas, please check the House Calendar.

Apthorp Library: Lots of wonderful books, especially fiction, childrens books, illustrated books, art books, history, religion, philosophy. The books belong to the Palfreys, and many are precious to them; they love to have them looked at, but please do not borrow them without discussing it with them first.

Seminar Space: Please talk to the Palfreys about any ideas you have for special events, and they will announce all open events held there, such as Life Seminars, dinners and receptions.

Prop Shop: In the basement is a prop shop/woodworking shop that may be used by anyone in Adams House. It is accessed by swipe card through the cellar door, but you must ask Jorge to program in your ID number. Once certified that you can use the power tools safely, he will email Sean, Matt, and Jorge, and we can program your card.

Prop Shop Use Guidelines:
1. Please do not work in the shop before 10 AM or after 10PM.
2. Please clean up thoroughly after yourself. There is a vacuum cleaner and a broom in the room.
3. Please do not take tools out of the prop shop except to the Pool or the Kronauer space, in which case they must be signed in and out in the book.
4. If there are tools you think we should consider getting, please talk to Sean (spalfrey@fas) or to Matt (corriel@fas).

Ping pong and pool table: In the cellar, past the prop shop and also accessible with the swipe card, is a room with a convertible pool/ping pong table. These may be used most of the time between 10 AM and 10 PM, except when there are events happening on the first floor.

Apthorp Basement Use Guidelines
1. Please be careful with the table tops and equipment.
2. Please try not to make too much noise, and keep the place very clean.
3. There is a refrigerator there which often has soda in it, and there may be pretzels or other snacks there, to which you are welcome.
4. Please do not go into the other rooms in the cellar. These are private spaces.

Your ideas: If you have ideas for special uses of Apthorp House, please talk to the Palfreys. They have had sleep-overs for children in the STRIVE Program and scary Halloween events in the cellar.

Apthorp Attic Project: Sean is planning to refurnish one side of the unrestored attic space of Apthorp House (built in 1761) as it might have been when it served as barracks in the Revolutionary War, and the other side as it might have been when it was a dorm at the turn of the last century. (There are some very evocative drawings on some of the walls.) Sean is hoping to interest one or several students in researching this for a term paper or a thesis. If you are interested, or know of someone who might be, please let him know.
