Bhlasen.com is an interactive online portal that seeks to provide:
- A comprehensive information source and databank on Afro-centric issues;
- A forum for open discourse around specific political, social and economic affairs relevant to the continent of Africa;
- An arena to directly engage mainstream international media portrayal of Africa;
- An opportunity to share various experiences of Africa.
We aim to:
- Bring timely notice of major events as they happen.
- Bring perceptions of Africa and the African identity to the forefront as articulated in various media in Africa and abroad.
- Provide additional perspective of Africa by providing a platform for alternative opinions on Africa and African issues.
- Help deconstruct the “double consciousness� reinforced by a western-dominated media lens by encouraging the expression of the diverse identities and voices that make up the contemporary African consciousness.
Toward this end, we publish articles, commentary, stories and editorials that engage various international news and information sources to provide a multifaceted, in-depth view of themes from various regions on the continent of Africa. Through comprehensive criticism, analysis and discussion of these sources with our peers, we aim to create knowledge out of information. In this manner we will empower informed student voices to have the impetus for action.
