Seminar TopicThe Morning after Pill
Should pharmacists have the right to refuse to fill legally prescribed pharmaceuticals when doing so is at odds with their strongly held religious or moral beliefs? We will discuss this question with an emphasis on emergency contraception (EC), otherwise known as "the morning after pill." After learning a bit about how the drug works, we will analyze several arguments on each side of this debate. Some issues we will touch on are: the demands of moral integrity, the relevance of the separation of church and state, the monopoly power held by the pharmaceutical industry, and the relevant interests of women.
