Seminar Topic Cases from the Clinics: Ethical Challenges of Technology in Clinical Practice
In this seminar we will analyze real cases that have come to the Brigham and Women's Hospital Ethics Consultation Service. Should there there be age limits on the use of assisted reproductive technology? Is it ethically justified to turn off a pacemaker or a left ventricular assist device? We will consider what theoretical framework should be use to respond to these questions and who should make decisions about ethical questions that arise in clinical medicine.
