Q: Who can view our pictures?
A: SmugMug offers public and private galleries. All our galleries are public. Of our public galleries, we have two flavors: password-protected and unprotected. Unprotected galleries are open to the public (e.g. parents, opponents, stalkers). Password-protected galleries are viewable only by those with the password (e.g. Quasar, disc-team, alumni) and those who upload pictures (e.g. potentially other parents). By default, all our galleries are unprotected.
Q: My dad took some pictures, how can he share them with the team?
A: If you think it's okay for your dad to have access to password-protected galleries then you can ask him to directly upload the pictures himself. Otherwise, ask him to send you the pictures and then upload them yourself.
Q: How do I upload pictures?
A: We chose to use SmugMug because they make uploading pictures extremely easy. Detailed instructions are below only for those who need it. If you run into any trouble, don't hesitate to e-mail us: disc@hcs.harvard.edu
- Go to http://disc.smugmug.com. Click login. Use login information sent over email.
- If appropriate gallery already exists under Featured Galleries: Click that gallery. Click Add Photos (upper right).
- Otherwise: Click New Gallery (at the top). Chose a Category (only the first 10 category choices are relevant and Other is always an acceptable category). Type a Title. Leave everything else as is. Click Create. Click Add Photos.
- Hopefully your browser is up-to-date and you'll get a dialog box requesting your authentication. Accept the content and you should see a big version of the SmugMug smiley face. Follow drag-and-drop instructions on screen.
- Upload finished!
- Now, if you want to password-protect the newly created gallery, go and view the gallery. Select Customize Gallery in the drop-down list next to tools. Change Password and Password Hint.
Q: How do I download pictures?
A: Anyone can download the pictures they can see one by one. If you want a season's (or a decade's) worth of pictures, SmugMug offers CD/DVD backups of entire categories/galleries for ~$10/20.
