The Harvard Computer Society has been a "driving force" in the development and deployment of computers at Harvard since well before the fall of the Soviet Union (or the very least, we've met weekly to talk about computers and technology and eat pizza since at least 1983). We do whatever we're interested in (and, by proxy, whatever you're interested in, if you join us) but we have a number of ongoing and currently active projects that tend to consume our time. See About HCS for a description of several of them.
We meet weekly to discuss technology, Harvard policy and the stuff we're working on, as well as to work on projects. We also bring in speakers from current researchers in computer science to people who are famous for their ideas or businesses (think Steve Ballmer, Steve Wozniak, or Richard Stallman). Plus, in this coming fall, we're turning 25!
If you're still reading, chances are that you're an incoming freshperson in the class of 2012. Congratulations! You've made the right choice. Plus, if you get a job doing anything technical later, people will ask you why you didn't go to MIT and they'll be impressed no matter how you answer. Seriously, though, we'll be happy to welcome you to Harvard in the fall - be sure to come check us out! In the meantime, you can subscribe to our mailing lists by filling out the form below. We promise not to send you uninteresting stuff or to send too much. And it's the best way for you to hear from us when you get on campus next fall. Or, if subscribing seems like too much of a commitment, just send your name and e-mail address and we'll send you a welcome note once you get on campus.
