HRC elects Caleb Weatherl president and a female majority on its 119th board
( Cambridge ) Tonight, the Harvard Republican Club, the oldest College
Republican organization in the nation, elected for the first time in
recent memory a female majority on its Executive Board.
The members of the HRC elected Caleb Weatherl '10 as President, Colin
Motley '10 as Vice President for Activism, Michelle Parilo '10 as Vice
President for Speakers, Alee Lockman '10 as Vice President for Social
Events, Rachel Wagley '11 as Secretary, Luis Martinez '11 as
Treasurer, and Brenda Maldonado '10 as Membership and Outreach Director.
Newly elected president Caleb Weatherl '10 exclaimed, "The club has
come a long way with the most competitive election in recent memory
and we will work tirelessly to continue to build the conservative
movement on campus and win the 2008 election."
Outgoing president Jeffrey Kwong said in his concluding remarks, "I
remember when I was elected, all 7 members of the board were male and
I was the only minority. We have really come a long way and I consider
the results of tonight's elections my biggest legacy."
The Harvard Republican Club, founded in 1888, is the oldest College
Republican chapter in the nation and received the Massachusetts
Alliance of College Republicans' Most Active Chapter of the year award
in 2007.

III . STOP Welfare Panel with Congressman E. Clay Shaw – 11/29
Interested in welfare reform and the landmark 1996 bill that helped fuel the Republican Revolution? Want to advance conservative economic ideas regarding poverty, race, and inequality? Want to see Congressman E. Clay Shaw in action one more time before he leaves to go home to Florida ? Then come to Emerson 305 on Thursday, November 29 from 6:30-8pm to take part in a panel discussion on welfare reform and poverty in America , hosted by Students Taking on Poverty (STOP) and featuring Congressman Shaw, who is the HRC's sponsored speaker on the panel. Topics to be addressed include the role of government in poverty reduction in modern America and an evaluation of the success of the 1996 Welfare Reform bill. IV. Campaign Trip to New Hampshire – 12/1
The primary season is heating up, and the HRC is right in the middle of it! We'll be taking another bus trip to New Hampshire to campaign for GOP primary candidates on Saturday, December 1 from 10am to 5pm. Once again, opportunities will be available with the Giuliani, McCain, Romney, Thompson, Huckabee, and Paul campaigns. Whether this is your first shot at primary campaigning in New Hampshire or you're just looking to see what campaigning is like in non-hurricane conditions, we hope we'll see you there! V. HRC GENERAL BOARD MEETING WITH SPECIAL GUEST MEGHAN O'SULLIVAN – 12/12
Meghan O'Sullivan will be joining us for our last meeting of the semester. O'Sullivan is an IOP fellow and was Special Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Iraq and Afghanistan . She was stationed in Baghdad , Iraq for the summer of 2007 at the request of the President, U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker, and the Commanding General. VI. MACR Christmas Gala -- 12/1
Celebrate the most wonderful time of year a little early and join the Massachusetts Alliance of College Republicans for their annual Christmas Gala, to be held this year at Smith College on Saturday, December 1. Enjoy light refreshments as you dance and chat with fellow College Republicans across the state. The event runs from 7:30pm-11pm, and semi-formal attire is required. Since Smith is in the western part of the state in Northampton , Massachusetts , MACR is organizing carpools to and from the event for interested students in the Boston region.
