Spotlight: a few of our current projects
- The Harvard Pemja Scholarship Fund
Dan Lieberman, a Harvard Professor in Human Evolutionary Biology, has been working with students from the Pemja Primary School in Kobujoi in the South Nandi District of the Western Rift Proivnce of Kenya. The students at this school do not have the opportunity to advance further in their education, which greatly limits their future potential. The Harvard Pemja Scholarship Fund helps sponsor individual children at the Pemja Primary School so that they can pursue a higher education at the IC Chebisaas Girls or Boys Schools or at another school in surrounding districts.
- Vijana Vocational Centre - Arusha, Tanzania
The Vijana Centre, a Global Alliance for Africa initiative, is dedicated to providing youth access to vocational training, life skills training, and psycho-social support. Vijana provides specific vocational training in: bicycle mechanics, maintenance and repair; bicycle related pedal-power design; and bicycle business management, as well as computer training and secretarial skills, and English, French and Spanish foreign language courses.
- New Hope Orphanage Laptop Center - Busia, Uganda
HCAA is collecting used laptops in order to launch a computer facility in partnership with New Hope Africa Children Ministries. The Center will teach technical skills to orphans and locals while also functioning as a profit-generating internet cafe for the community.
