Background: Annie completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing as part of the Class of 2010 at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. She demonstrates a strong commitment to serving her community though her work with underserved teenage moms and the HEPS membership. Currently fulfilling her final post-bacc year, she also participates in research activities at Children’s Hospital Boston. She is an avid skier and runner. And while she may be at the bottom of a 45-year waiting list, she cannot wait for the day when her name comes up for season tickets to the Green Bay Packers.

Hometown: Larchmont, New York
Background: Haili’s medical curiosity began as a child while living with her grandfather who was a military doctor. After graduating college with a degree in Psychology and History from New York University, her experiences at Bellevue Hospital revived her passion for medicine. She is grateful that she has been given the opportunity to participate in optometrical and surgical outreach efforts in Ghana this summer. In addition, Haili will continue to explore her interest in surgery and global health at Beth Israel Deaconess’ orthopedics research unit this fall. She also loves running, rock climbing, and visiting museums during her travels. Her top three favorite cities are Barcelona, St. Petersburg, and needless to say, New York City.

Hometown: St. Louis, Missouri
Background: Originated from St. Louis, Missouri, Van undertook undergraduate studies at Grinnell College in Iowa. His interest in medicine, however, did not truly begin until he was involved in research at the cardiology department at NYU Langone Medical Center. After interning at Bellevue Hospital’s EM department and detouring to New Orleans to become a crew chief in rebuild efforts, Van began his work in the Health Careers Program and Harvard Extension Pre-Health Society.
Fun Fact: Van played football and rugby in college. In addition, he has Justin Timberlake’s entire discography. Yes, he does listen to it regularly.

Position: Director of Volunteer
Background: Meghana double-majored in Finance and Marketing at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and she worked as an investment banking analyst in New York City after graduation. Before joining Harvard’s Health Careers Program, Meghana realized that she wanted to help people on a more personal level in her day-to-day work. While exploring the field of clinical psychology, she discovered a desire to learn about the underlying biology behind human development. She enjoys her work as a research assistant in the Department of Newborn Medicine at Children’s Hospital, and likes to practice yoga, cook, and entertain in her spare time.

Position: Interactive Community Chair
Background: Native to La Verne, California, Eric grew up in a small town 30 miles outside of LA, and obtained his B.F.A. from University of Southern California in 2011. Post graduation, he interned for a documentary production company during which he traveled to Honduras to support the filming of medical volunteers. Aside from cinematography, Eric’s hobbies also include playing guitar, recording music, and running.
Fun fact: Eric owns a two-year-old white cat named Evil Betty. Origins of the name have yet to be discovered.
Position: Special Projects Chair
Hometown: Salem, Massachusettes
Background: After graduating from Salem High School, Maggie began her undergraduate degree at McGill University. She discovered an interest in neuroscience while taking a cognition class with the author of This is Your Brain on Music. Currently enrolled in the ALB program and fulfilling pre-medical requirements, Maggie plans to graduate in the next year. She loves studying science and psychology and is especially interested in the biological bases of human behavior and social development. With her recently acquired rebuild skills, Maggie is excited to attend the Alternative Spring Break trip to New Orleans again this year. Outside of class, Maggie enjoys cooking, running, and traveling.

Background: In 2010, Danny graduated from University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Prior to his post-bacc pre-medical journey here at Harvard Extension, he worked at as a microbiologist at Gilead Pharmaceuticals. Not only is he well-versed in Arabic, Danny has also been playing the guitar for more than a decade.

Hometown: Montgomery Village, Maryland
Background: Before returning to the east coast, Kerrie lived in San Francisco. She loved working in display advertising at Yahoo but her passion for medicine brought her across country to Harvard Extension and HEPS. Kerrie graduated from Stanford University in 2007 having majored in Human Biology. Outside of her academic pursuits, Kerrie enjoys reading and exploring all that New England has to offer.
Fun fact: Dance parties – Kerrie knows not how to turn them down.

Hometown: Duxbury, Massachusetts
Background: Mahmud was born and raised in Duxbury, MA. In the spring of 2010, she completed her undergraduate career at Tufts University with a major in Classical Studies. Her experiences as a pediatrics volunteer at Massachusetts General Hospital inspired her to venture into the medical sector. In addition to taking physics and organic chemistry, Sairah loves to dance, volunteer, and read.
Fun fact: Sairah is a member of Chi Omega, and played squash in college.

Jenna L. Norton
Position: Social Chair
Background: Originally from Texas, Jenna holds a Bachelor’s in Theatre and Italian Studies with an emphasis in Shakespearean acting and directing. She performed in festivals throughout the US, studied abroad in the UK, and created the artistic collective Cry Havoc! Shakespeare Initiative. While always interested in medicine, Jenna’s career plans changed after volunteering with isolation patients at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Norton hopes to become either an oncologist in the states or a general surgeon for third world aid efforts.
Fun Fact: Jenna spent several years growing up in Lhokseumawe, Indonesia and had a pet lemur.
