Harvard Islamic Society

Welcome Summer Students!

To all students who are joining our community for the summer, welcome, and we hope to get to know you before you leave Cambridge. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions you have about the Harvard Muslim community. For a break from studying and research, HIS will be organizing some social activities during the summer, inshAllah, so keep an eye out for them.

Some key things to do/know:

  1. Get swipe card access to the prayer room (musalla), located in the basement of Canaday Hall, in Harvard Yard. Perfect for a quick prayer break (or a quick nap) between classes, when you don’t want to go all the way back to your dorm.
  2. Get on our email lists to stay up to date about our programming. We have a general email list, that you can sign up for here (check “HIS-List”), and we are forming a more informal list for undergraduates and high school students – please email harvardislamicsociety@gmail.com to find out about that one.
  3. Community Friday prayer is held every week in Holden Chapel, in Harvard Yard. The khutba starts around 1:30, and prayer ends by 2.

There will be sign-up sheets for both musalla access and our email lists at jumah for the next few weeks.

To help you navigate Harvard life, we’ve also put together this Muslim Guide to Life at Harvard – Summer 2012 Edition.

See you around Cambridge!
