The Agassiz Theatre

The Harvard-Radcliffe Gilbert and Sullivan Players perform in the historic Agassiz Theatre, which is located in picturesque Radcliffe Yard on Garden Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Agassiz Theatre (known affectionately as "The Ag") is managed by the Office for the Arts at Harvard in service of its mission to integrate creative thinking and expression into the undergraduate educational experience. Agassiz House, which houses the theater as well as other facilities, was built in 1904 and is now operated by the Radcliffe Institute. Radcliffe's support of undergraduate theater dates back to 1884, when the Idler Club, an all-female theatrical group, was founded. The theater serves as a venue for plays which students select, direct, produce, perform and occasionally write. Eugene O'Neill, Philip Barry, Arthur Kopit, Stockard Channing, Peter Sellars and John Lithgow are among those who got their start on its stage. Approximately 750 undergraduates are involved in Agassiz Theatre productions each year and thousands more attend its productions.
