Harvard Pre-Collegiate Economics Challenge (HPEC)
Each year, the Harvard Undergraduate Economics Association organizes the Harvard Pre-Collegiate Economics Challenge (HPEC), a competition for high school students passionate about economics. The Harvard Undergraduate Economics Association (HUEA) promotes awareness about research and opportunities in economics for students interested in learning about the field or pursuing economics-related careers. HPEC is the flagship event of our outreach branch, which seeks to foster economics education.
The competition will test economics knowledge at the Advanced Placement Microeconomics and Macroeconomics levels, as well as knowledge of current economic and financial events, through a series of individual and team rounds. Teams should consist of four students each, and schools may bring up to two teams. Up to thirty-two teams will be able to participate. In the past, students have found this competition to be fun and helpful preparation for the AP Economics exams.
We are honored to have Professor N. Gregory Mankiw, author of the widely-used textbook Principles of Economics, as our special keynote speaker. In the past, Professor Mankiw has offered remarks and then taken time to speak to students and answer their questions.
