Welcome!

Welcome to the Harvard Undergraduate Research Symposium (HURS) homepage. Founded in 2006, HURS is Harvard's first university-wide undergraduate research symposium. Starting in 2007, HURS will be hosted and organized by the Harvard College Undergraduate Research Association (HCURA). HCURA was founded to foster a community of undergraduate scientists on the Harvard campus.

The goals of the symposium are four-fold:

  • Establish a venue for undergraduates to present their scientific research to the university and Cambridge community
  • Increase awareness among Harvard faculty and administration of the scope of research undertaken yearly by Harvard undergraduates
  • Expose freshmen to the rich tradition of undergraduate research at Harvard and the wealth of funding opportunities available to undergraduates
  • Publish an annual compilation of HURS abstracts

Indeed, the HURS initiative has evolved into an event much more meaningful than a one-day symposium—it represents a movement in the undergraduate community towards interdisciplinary cross-talk. In an institution that thrives on the collaborative pursuit of knowledge, an undergraduate research symposium seems right at home.

If you are an undergraduate previously or currently involved in scientific research, we encourage you to apply. To learn more about the mechanics of HURS, including deadlines and application information, browse the Guidelines link above or send us an email at hurs@hcs.harvard.edu. The 2007 symposium is planned for November 3, 2007, so please mark your calendars today!

Sincerely,
