Next Generation HCS Systems
In January 2008, HCS received a generous grant from FAS IT to completely rebuild the computer systems that support our popular services. In June 2008, we purchased nearly $25,000 worth of hardware. Now, after almost a year of intense development, HCS-NextGen is here.
Watch this space for updates on exactly what new features we're rolling out, but in general things will be changing pretty fast between now and the end of the year. Most of the first phase of changes won't be directly visible to our users, but they will make our systems more cutting-edge, easier to manage, and more secure. We'll schedule a technical talk in the near future to describe what we've done.
Also, we'll try to keep the amount of downtime during this process to a minimum, but you should feel free to contact us (acctserv [at] hcs) if you think you see a problem.
Migration updates follow:
- 27 April 2009 9:30 AM: We're moving the lists.hcs.harvard.edu service into its new home today. Most notable about this is that we're now rolling out our new custom interface for Mailman, our list management software.
- 28 April 2009 1:00 PM: List migration started at about 2AM last night after we let the mail switchover cool down. We're now moving over all the lists (4595 of them!) and this will take a day or so. If your list interface is down, check back later or contact us.
- 3 May 2009 12:00 PM: List migration is now complete. Please enjoy the new web interface to mailing lists.
