The Harvard Rugby Club hosted McGill this past weekend in the 139th anniversary match between the two rivals. The A-side match started out as a bitter battle for field position in the cold and windy spring afternoon. The teams went back and forth for much of the half until McGill broke the Harvard defensive line and scampered in for a try halfway through the 1st half. The rest of the half was dominated by Harvard, but despite a few close attempts, the Harvard Ruggers went into half empty handed. The second half started out just life the first, digressing into a game of field position. However, McGill’sspeed ultimately took advantage of a few holes in the Harvard defense resulting in 2 quick tries byMcGill. Harvard then struck back, with a try by senior wing Nick Moore and a successful conversion kick by freshman Will Collins. Harvard’s comeback attempt was a little too late in the making, and the match ended with McGill putting up two more tries. The final score was 31-7 McGill. The A-side is back in action next weekend in the local Beanpot Tournament.

The B-side came out hot during the first part of their match against McGill. The Harvard Ruggers used this momentum to get on the board first with an early try by sophomore rookie and man of the match Niv Sultan. Thanks to a great defensive stand at the end of the half, Harvard entered halftime up 5-0 on rival McGill. McGill came out fast in the second half and aided by a few defensive breakdowns by Harvard, they found their way into the try zone and took the lead with a successful conversion kick. The game was a dead heat for much of the rest of the match until McGill capitalized on a few Harvard penalties to score a few more tries before the end of the match resulting in a final score of 5-24.
