The Crimson started off the second week of Ivy League play with spirits high after a solid week of training. Fundamentals looked sound across the board, and the starting XV were looking to showcase their improved skills once again. The clear weather provided an excellent backdrop for Harvard’s first home game.
Brown started quick out of the gates and put the ball in Harvard territory; they were soon awarded with a penalty kick and went up three to nothing. But reigning Harvard Man of the Match Xander Groeneveld ’11 didn’t let that lead last long and punched in for a try. Groeneveld showed excellent play this game as well and made hard-hitting tackles that left the crowd in awe.
Dan Deighton ’10 followed up with two scores of his own, and Xander ran in for yet another score. Captain Jonny Miller ’10 responded with a try of his own, and Deighton ran in for three more. Johnny Cummins ’11 scored one in from the edge with a daring leap.
Brown responded with their own unconverted try, but TJ Brennan ’10 answered by breaking through three tackles on his way to the try zone. Dave Renteln ’11 also got in for a score.
Dan Deighton was named Man of the Match for his hard tackling and exemplary ball running.
Final Score: Harvard 69, Brown 11
