Harvard vs. Cornell

The Crimson hosted Cornell for the second home game of the year on Saturday.  Harvard opted to start most of its B-Squad for the game, giving the next generation of players a chance to build their skills while the A side got in some extra rest before Sunday’s match against Columbia.

Cornell got things off to a quick start with a converted try to open the first half.  Harvard’s B side had trouble creating momentum at first until Max De La Cal ‘11 ran in for an unconverted score.  Ed Traver ‘11 led the backs with hard tackles and excellent passing, and also made an excellent handoff to set up De La Cal’s try.  The score stood at 7-5 at the half, with Cornell taking the lead.

Harvard started the second half by subbing in some more of its starting 15, and the game quickly tipped in the HRFC’s favor.  Jeff Overall ‘11 plowed through the Cornell forwards for a great try.  Dan Deighton ‘10 followed with a quick try of his own.  Garrett Augustine ‘10 ran in another score, and Deighton followed up with a 70 meter run to put the score at 25-7.  Jonny Miller ‘10 converted, and Nick Torres ‘11 ended the game with another unconverted try.

Nick Torres was named Man of the Match for his outstanding running and hard tackles.  Harvard is now resting up for a Sunday match against Columbia.
