In addition to the work done by committees on specific campaigns, STOP holds meetings called "Solution Sessions" and related events on a regular basis. Check the site often for updates on campaigns, committees, and events.

Diversity in Careers Awareness (DICA)
Diversity in Careers Awareness (DICA) is a group devoted to better enabling Harvard students to pursue careers in the public sector and the arts by providing the necessary information and resources. See below for a sampling of ways to get involved with DICA.
The campus action committee works to produce events like forums, panel discussions, and training workshops for students seeking work in the public and arts sectors. Currently, we are working to hold a two-day conference on alternative careers for upperclassmen. If you are interested in broadening the Harvard career search, contact Philip Parham (pparham (at) fas) and Dhaval Chadha (dhavalchadha (at) gmail (dot) com).
The career research group collects information on job opportunities outside the areas you would normally find in e-recruiting, including jobs in non-profits, international NGOs, and the arts and works to discover the most effective ways to make this research accessible to the entire Harvard community. If you are interested in this working group, please contact Alex Hubbell at hubbell.alex (at) gmail (dot) com.
The on-campus research group conducts surveys and collects statistics on students' career ambitions throughout their years at Harvard. The goal of the project is to understand two basic questions:
The mission of the alumni connection team is to learn more about the career paths that Harvard alumni pursue both immediately after college and further along in their lives. If you are interested in connecting with alumni in a diverse array of fields, contact Kamoy Smalling at ksmallin (at) fas.
Immigrant Civil Rights Campaign
Along with several other campus groups, STOP is working to publish and distribute pamphlets and organize teach-in's in Cambridge's low-income communities on the civil rights of immigrants, undocumented as well as documented. We are especially in need of volunteers who can speak and read Spanish, Arabic, Urdu and Creole for this project. Please contact Lumumba Seegars (lseegars (at) fas) and Ben Arabia (barabia (at) fas) if you would like to contribute in any way.

Predatory Lending Counseling Volunteer Program
he current sub-prime mortgage crisis disproportionately effects low-income communities of color. STOP is committed to assisting these communities in any way that we can. We are currently working with ACORN and other community groups to organize weekly or bi-weekly volunteer days. Student volunteers would have the opportunity to collect stories, help with in-take and work on community outreach with our partner organizations. Please contact Pawanpreet Dhaliwal (dhaliwal (at) fas) if you would like more information.
Policy Committee: C-CAP and the Low-Income Students Initiative

C-CAP Petition | C-CAP Signatures
This year STOP's policy committee will continue to work on the implementation of the Course-Cost Assistance Program (C-CAP), a program that would provide book stipends for low-income students, and begin to more comprehensively address the costs that burden low-income students at Harvard. Please contact Katie Kelter, STOP's Director of Policy, for more information at kakelter (at) fas.
Social Action Committee
The Social Action Committee organizes STOP's awareness events and service activities. Currently, the group is working on a health-care initiative with the Harvard African Students Association (HASA.) STOP and HASA are working to send latex gloves to women's hospitals in west Africa. The committee meets every Monday at 9 PM in Lowell Dining Hall. Please contact Kwelina Thompson (kpthomps (at) fas) for more information.
Study Group on Socio-economic Equality at Harvard
As Harvard continues to admit a record number of low-income students each year, we must, as a community, begin to assess their unique burdens and needs. The purpose of the Study Group on Socio-economic Equality at Harvard is to do just that. Beyond beginning an honest dialogue on the pressures, both financial and social, that low-income students face at Harvard, we have several goals for this study group: 1) to expand STOP's (and other groups') advocacy efforts on behalf of low-income students by serving as a sort of policy think tank; 2) produce a "Low-income Student's Guide to Harvard," including detailed information on resources and advice from upperclassmen and alums, for incoming freshmen; and 3) provide a supportive environment for low-income students to advocate for their concerns.
The study group will meet every Friday at 4 PM for 7 weeks in the coming semester. The only requirements for joining are a dedication to socio-economic equality on campus, respect for varying opinions and the willingness to devote a few hours during the semester to research. Please contact Lumumba Seegars (lseegars (at) fas) and Pawanpreet Dhaliwal (dhaliwal (at) fas) for more information or with any questions.

Campus Aid <campusaid.org>
A joint effort by STOP and HIDO developed last year, "Campus Aid seeks to lay the foundation of a student movement paralleling other great movements in American history for global development and poverty eradication. The UN Millennium Campaign and the Global Call to Action Against Poverty have had tremendous success in mobilizing people around the world but only limited success in the US. Campus Aid will begin to change that through an event that will raise awareness, connect students to global development opportunities on and off their own campuses, and build a network of students across the country dedicated to this cause.
"The first step in a long series of inspiration, collaboration, and action will be the coordination of simultaneous concerts on college campuses across the country in the vein of the LiveAID and Live8 Concerts of 1985 and 2005" (campusaid.org).

The 2006-2007 year focused heavily on education and continued to address Hurricane Katrina relief, in the spirit with which STOP was born.
