Home Sweet Aloha
When I first saw the tropical styles of Dior and House of Holland for Spring 2011, I couldn’t help but laugh at the patterns that I had seen my on my Grandma’s muumuus growing up. Out of nowhere, the colorful prints of my childhood had resurfaced into the collections of a few of my favorite designers. And once again in Resort 2012, those patterns of paradise returned with an even greater helping of that aloha spirit on the runways of Stella McCartney, Suno and Marc by Marc Jacobs. So it’s official. So long Paris, Honolulu is the new fashion capital of the world.
After rummaging through my closet and discovering an absurd number of aloha shirts and even more disturbingly a white fringe bikini and straw, house-shaped purse, I set out to recreate this whimsical trend against the beautiful and appropriate backdrop of my island home. With my two of my best friends by my side, we frolicked on the beaches of Waikiki and soaked up that last bit of sunshine in our last days of (winter) vacation.
Did I mention my best friend conveniently happens to be a six-foot tall supermodel?
