Behind Harvard Fashion: Eleganza 2012 Model Auditions
What do fabulous shoes, shirtless boys, and a healthy dose of booty-shaking have in common? Lots of things come to mind. In this case, however, it’s Eleganza’s model auditions, which were held Wednesday-Friday, February 2-4. The auditions were a chance for Harvard undergrads to strut their stuff, show off some dance moves, and land a coveted spot in one of Harvard’s biggest annual events.
The Eleganza fashion show will take place April 21, during pre-frosh weekend. Many of the students auditioning had seen the show during their pre-frosh weekend, and several named Eleganza as one of the experiences that made them choose Harvard in the first place. For some, though, auditioning for Eleganza came about quite by chance. James Fox, a freshman in Thayer, was convinced to attend auditions by his neighbor, Antonia Hylton. While he has never seen the show, he was attracted to the prospect of meeting new people and wearing really nice clothes (even if only for a night). His secret weapon for his audition? “Just have fun,” a confident Fox said. “Act like I’m in my own dorm doing it for myself.”
Francheska Loza, another 2015er, was excited by Eleganza’s mission of diversity. “I will be able to be a part of something that represents all of Harvard,” Loza said as she practiced some poses in front of a mirror.
By the close of auditions on Friday night, hundreds of hopeful undergrads had come out to try out for Eleganza’s cast. Notifications will be released on Wednesday, February 8 and the models will begin working with the rest of the Eleganza staff, who have been working on the show for months now. By the time the April show date rolls around, the models are sure to ‘Ganza ready.
