Welcome to the Association of Black Harvard Women's Website!
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Association of Black Harvard Women website. For more than 33 years, the Association of Black Harvard Women has served the vivacious and strong Black women who comprise its membership by fostering sisterhood, tackling social and political issues uniquely pertinent to Black women worldwide, and serving as a catalyst for change both on and beyond Harvard University’s campus. What began as a mere idea aimed at unifying Black Radcliffe women in 1975 has evolved into the ever-growing sisterhood of service and social activism which defines the organization today. Decades after its inception, the Association of Black Harvard Women, or ABHW as it is endearingly called on campus, works to carry out its steadfast mission and serve its membership as a “catalyst in bringing Black women on Harvard University's campus together for academic, cultural, political and social purposes.”
On behalf of the Association of Black Harvard Women Executive Board, I would like to expressly welcome all of our members, alumnae, and friends of ABHW to our website and express my sincerest gratitude for your interest in learning more about the rich history and promising future of our organization. Consisting of a membership of over 100 dynamic Harvard undergraduates, the Association of Black Harvard Women is comprised of women from varied backgrounds possessing varied interests, all united under the common goals of promoting sisterhood and enacting change in our community. Evident in the projects of the ABHW Action Committee and the continued service of the Alberta V. Scott Mentorship Program, ABHW is more than just an organization; it’s what you do. And clearly illustrated by the countless black women donned in purple and black on our 1st annual ABHW Day of Royalty, there does not exist one face of ABHW, but rather many. I challenge you, whether member, alumna, or friend, to help us strive toward fulfilling our mission for years to come.
In Sisterhood,
Jasmine Rencher
