Sharon is delighted to be serving as Adams House's Allston Burr Resident Dean again this year. As your academic dean, Sharon is available to help you try to make the most of your intellectual experience in the College; as a fellow resident here in Adams, she wants to help you to enjoy what this extraordinary House has to offer, to be safe, and to stay sane while balancing all the things you do. She is also Adams's representative to Harvard's Administrative Board. Sharon has a PhD in English and American Literature from Harvard (specializing in American Poetry), and is a Lecturer in the History and Literature concentration. She has lived in Adams House for five years, and enjoys a comfy home in I-Entryway with her husband--Resident Artist Tom Howell--as well as son Ethan (5) and daughter Maggie (2), who can often be seen cavorting in the courtyard. Please introduce yourself when you see her around the house, drop in during her office hours in C-12 (10-11am Monday-Friday), or make an appointment to meet at 5-2260 or ofcoontz@fas--she's looking forward to meeting, remeeting, and getting to know all of you!
Sophia hails from parts unknown, but if you listen carefully, you will
hear the unmistakable "lilt" of a southerner. And yes, she likes
grits! She is an archaeologist by training (pots, paintings, and
mosaics, not dinosaurs), and is known to carry on about ancient Romans
and Greeks whenever possible. Sophia is also an avid college football
(GO GATORS!) and works hard to convert the Harvard faithful. She was married in May 2007 to an active Adams Alum and can be variously spotted at House events with the very tall Joe Levy. Sophia manages room bookings, the student employees timesheets/payments, and all Housing related items from the lottery to roommate issues as well as various other House related activities. She aspires to answer all questions of a
house-related, non-academic nature...or find a resource who can!
Please stop by and introduce yourself whenever possible or pop in for a chat.
Otto wears several hats in the House. Should you find yourself in the bureaucratic funhouse of C-18 looking for a petition for one thing or another, he is your guide through the labyrinth of forms, policies and procedures which Harvard requires before you so much as sneeze. If you're writing a Senior thesis, he presents a thesis workshop every fall and "The Thesis Show", one of the biggest and most exciting of Adams traditions each spring. This year, he is also collaborating on a screenplay adapted from his most recent novel (his previous novels and children's books, which he also illustrated, have been published here and in the UK, and in Japanese and Spanish translations). If you see him in the Dining Hall or out and about with Pip, he welcomes all to pull up a chair or come along on a stroll. And should you find yourself struggling with a paper, a screenplay of your own, or anything from a valentine to a poison pen letter, he's always available to talk about any aspect of writing and the writing careers.
Whether it's a normal Tuesday dinner or a graduation reception, David Seley is your man in food service. From running campus-wide events to lending you that extremely large knife to cut your birthday cake, go to him for all your dining hall needs. He can often be found in the Adams Dhall, giving motivational speeches, arranging your cookie tray, and serving study break drinks with impressive headgear.
Jorge and his staff keep Adams running. He deals with all matters concerning facility maintenance and repair. When he isn't working hard to ensure your life in Adams runs smoothly, he can be found either chatting it up with his assistants or prowling the Halls of Adams, looking for things to fix.
He enjoys getting to know the students in the house, so stop by his office to say hello!
