Adams Housing

It is time to plot your next move as the 2008/09 Adams House lottery approaches!

PLEASE NOTE: Commencing in fall 2008, Adams House will permanently occupy the third floor of Claverly Hall (formerly Lowell House).

The Rising Senior Rooming Groups are now posted in C-Entry as are the rooms available for fall 2008.

WELCOME TO ADAMS HOUSING!

I hope that each of you will enjoy your stay in one of Harvard's most
historic and beautiful houses.

There are many deadlines with housing and the best place to keep up to
date is the housing office site. Please check their site for all
University deadlines regarding traveling abroad, living off-campus, fees
associated with room and board and much more.

Within the house, if there is ever anything I can do to help or serve
you, please feel free to let me know.

2008-09 SOPHOMORE HOUSING INFORMATION

All rising Adams House sophomores will receive more detailed information and a Housing Questionnaire in early May. The Sophomore Housing Questionnaire :(Rising Sophomore Housing Questionnaire)must be completed by May 14th even if you do not expect to be entering Adams in the fall. Questionniares can be turned in at the House Office in C-17 (there will be a box outside C-17 at all times where you can turn them in). Be thoughtful, thorough and honest when filling out your questionnaire to help ensure compatible rooming matches.

You may form a single-sex double, triple, or quad rooming group with any of the other incoming sophomores, regardless of blocking group.

Because specific room availability is uncertain until very late in the summer, you won't find out your specific room assignment until it is emailed to you approximately one week before move-in. No housing assignments will be given out over the phone!

You can include numbered lists of specific room preferences along with your general room type preferences, keeping in mind that space limitations will quite possibly prevent you from getting your preferred rooms. Listing several different possible rooming configurations on your form will make it easier for us to find one that will work for you, although there is always the possibility that your group will be split up or a floater will be added.

2008-2009 ADAMS HOUSING QUESTIONNAIRE

All students will receive the questionnaire and yellow lottery card in their boxes by Monday, April 14th (Incoming sophomores will receive the questionniare by email from the House Administrator. If you misplace your questionnaire, you may download it here for upperclass students:(upperclass housing questionnaire). However, a new yellow lottery card can only be obtained from the House Administrator- Sophia Chaknis. All Questionnaires and yellow lottery cards are due NO LATER than 5:00pm Wednesday April 23rd in the house office, C-17.

Medical Exemptions from the Lottery

Students with physical or mental health/disability-related issues pertaining to rooming assignments are encouraged to contact Accessible Education Office (AEO) in advance of the rooming lottery in their Houses. AEO Director, Louise Russell, will review the necessary clinical documentation, (guidelines for which may be found at http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~aeo/documentation.html), meet with the student, and make a determination as to whether a student should be exempted from the lottery. Approved exemptions are made to the student making the request, not entire groups, although every effort is made to include friends in close proximity to each other, if not actually together.

Each House has developed a housing assignment process which works best. If a student who has been denied a medical exemption by AEO actually receives a rooming assignment that coincidentally meets their clinical needs, they are not automatically eligible to receive such consideration the following year, but they are welcome to reapply.

Students are invited to inquire about the process, either by phone or email, or browse the AEO website for further information at: http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~aeo/

LOOKING FOR A ROOMMATE?

If for any reason you are looking for a roomate next year (taking leave, returning from leave or planning to float but would rather not), you can now POST what you are looking for in a roommate and possibly make a match instead of being assigned by the housing tutor. For example, you can use this site if you are a rooming group looking for an additional roommate or if you are individual looking for a roommate or rooming group. For example:

Two Junior men looking for fall term roommate only
Senior female looking for spring term space in a quad or triple
Sophomore woman looking for a roommate for the entire year

You can provide as much information as you like but can exclude items included on the housing questionnaire which can be shared, at your discretion, if a potential match is identified. Of course, please include email contact info in your post.

Hope this helps you in the housing hunt! To post a rooming request click here
