Fall Term '00

--------------------------------------------------
Saturday, Sept. 16, 2-4pm
(First showing of the Year!)
--
Porco Rosso (yay!)
Giant Robo 1

Also, almost every Fri this term, Alice had
shoujo showings in her room--these became
Oniisama E showings (also known as "video crack")
Fun fact 1: Nanako's "oniisama's" voice actor is
also *Batman* in the Animated Series Japanese dub.
Fun fact 2: Kaori-no-Kimi's voice actor is *Oscar*
in Rose of Versialles.
--------------------------------------------------
Saturday, Sept. 23, 2-5pm
--
Giant Robo 2
Vampire Princess Miyu tv 1-2
Card Captor Sakura 1-2
Basara 1
Video Girl Ai 1

In the mighty battle between VPM and CCS, more
people wanted to continue VPM, so that's the long
series that we'll be showing for the rest of the
term.

--------------------------------------------------
Saturday, Sept. 30, 2-5pm
--
Vampire Princess Miyu tv 3-5
Giant Robo 3-4
Video Girl Ai 2
Card Captor Sakura 3

Well...people liked CCS enough to keep watching it,
but Miyu's still our main thing. Basara will
continue later in the term.

Vampire Princess Miyu tv 6-7
Giant Robo 5-6
Video Girl Ai 3

will be in Loker 031

Vampire Princess Miyu 8-9
Giant Robo 7 (The CONCLUSION!)
Video Girl Ai 4
Card Captor Sakura 5-6

--------------------------------------------------
Saturday, Oct. 21, 2-6pm
--
Vampire Princess Miyu tv 10-11
Basara 2
Video Girl Ai 5-6 (The CONCLUSION!)
Card Captor Sakura 7-8

The return of Basara! The appearence of Li! Miyu
still depressing! Moemi still a $*%#*!

--------------------------------------------------
Saturday, Oct. 28, 2-6pm
--
Vampire Princess Miyu tv 12-13
Vampire Princess Miyu OVAs 1-4
Card Captor Sakura 9-10

In honor of Halloween, we decided to o.d. on Miyu.
We finally have a glimmer of plot on the horizon
of the tv series as Larva's old boyfriend turns
up. The OVAs are as creepy as ever. Jason,
however, found Sakura the scariest thing shown
today for its "wrongness" wrapped within a cute
facade. Katy points out that Rika has the same
seiyuu as Utena.

--------------------------------------------------
Saturday, Nov. 4, 2-6pm
--
Vampire Princess Miyu tv 14-15
Basara 3-4
Please Save My Earth OAV 1-2
Card Captor Sakura 11-12

Well, the hope of an overarching plot for Miyu was
a bit dashed as things with the western shinma
were resolved rather abruptly. We already know
from "Petshop of Horrors" that mermaids are bad
news, but Miyu proves it once again. Basara
introduces the requisite cute mascot, PSME I
can't say anything about just yet, and CCS remains
as always.

Saturday, Nov. 11, 2-6pm

Vampire Princess Miyu tv 16-17
Basara 5-6
Please Save My Earth OAV 3-4
Card Captor Sakura 13-14

A rift seems to be arising between the Snow
maiden and her...doll. Sarasa's love (who is
*of course* her main enemy) falls sick. As for PSME,
many of us feel like we should hate Rin, but
somehow we don't (except for Jason who feels like
he should hate Rin, and does). More wrongness in
CCS..."one of the 7 mysteries of the school" hm?
corrinne comments: "herein we have both the mystery
and the solution." Doesn't seem too mysterious to
me...

Saturday, Nov. 18, 2-6pm

Vampire Princess Miyu tv 18-19
Basara 7-8
Please Save My Earth OAV 5-6 (the CONCLUSION!)
Card Captor Sakura 15-16

We are almost an arts club...we had a reading
today ^_^ I think all hearts were touched by
Stephanie's "VPM tv drinking game."

VPM:Perhaps the 2 best ever Miyu episodes were
shown today. We had giant rampaging Buddha; we
had evil bishounen dolls and random lesbianism.
Basara: Sarasa is apparently the 1st person to
think of actually using her sword against sharks
after falling in the water. We can now see why
the previous men who lost the "Dance of Death"
were no great loss.
PSME: Aww...poor Rin, sucks to be him, no? (Jason
still remains steadfast in his hatred.) There is
a cool giant cat, but no real ending.
CCS: 2 very sweet episodes. Any wrongness you
percieved was only in your own sick head (should
I add, "for once?"). Touya is the man as always.

Vampire Princess Miyu tv 19-20
Basara 9-10
Roujin Z
Card Captor Sakura 17

Well I was wondering when VPM would get around to
incest. Finally! As for that thing with Reiha...
I don't get it. Many humans die (of course).

Basara introduced us to a new plot device: The
"convenient earthquake." I think we all rejoiced
when the dude with the unfortunate style of headgear
bit it, though. And why did everyone look at me
when the "special relationship" between Shuri and
Shido was referred to? (hm) Also, the foreign
power everyone's worried about appears to be the
European Union! Yay! And we even get the bad
English voice-acting I've been craving ever since
I finished Bastard!

Roujin Z, a too often overlooked classic, was even
better than expected. (Japan: where there's no
problem that cannot be solved by giant robots and
girls in short skirts.) I have now a new respect
for the Japanese Ministry of Health. Directed by
the same guy who did that Akira flick some people
might have heard of.

It was a bit strange following Roujin Z with the
seaside CCS episode though (started off with Kero:
"I want to go to the sea...") Watching CCS 18 was
cut short to let people into the coffeehouse to
decorate for a Christmas party for little kids.
Next week!

Have you noticed that these little summeries are
getting longer? This is because there's more
and more work I should be doing instead as time
goes on.

Miyu 22-24
Basara 11-13 (the Conclusion!)
Card Captor Sakura 18-20

I didn't get to see this...I was working on a
paper...pity me...

Saturday, Dec. 16, 2-6pm Last Showing of Term!

Miyu 25-26
Petshop of Horrors (dub!killer bunnies!yay!)
Mimi o Sumaseba

The conclusion of Miyu! 2 words: giant chickens!
2 more: everyone dies!
(how unexpected...)

Petshop of Horrors...so bad it's good...And I
actually like the dub. It adds that necessary
extra layer of cheesiness. We won't even get into
bizarre interactions between our lovably stupid
American cop and the Chinese pet-shop boy (pet-
shop boy...um, yes that reference was made by
mistake, but may not be wholey innappropriate)

Mimi o Sumaseba (aka If You Listen Closely aka
Whisper of the Heart) was glorious as always.
This and Porco Rosso vie for my favorite Ghibli.
Have you not seen this yet? You have not yet
lived as an anime fan! "Take me hooome...
country roooad..."
