BOND stands for Building on Diversity. We are an undergraduate organization dedicated to providing a social space for all students in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. Our specific goal is to create a supportive environment for students who do not identify as exclusively heterosexual and for all their friends and supporters.
While for most students college is a time of exciting social interaction and active self-expression, non-heterosexual students still have much fewer opportunities to explore their social needs and interests in a predominantly heterosexual environment. Through various social events, such as parties and study breaks, BOND strives to create a space where its members can meet and communicate with each other in an atmosphere where pursuing friendship or intimacy requires neither hiding nor proclamation.
We are particularly sensitive to the needs of students who are not open about their sexual orientation. It is our belief that the degree to which people emphasize their sexual orientation is a matter of personal choice that should be respected. BOND is primarily a social organization, and it does not claim to represent its members in political debates about issues relating to sexual orientation. These vital functions we leave to other organizations, such as the BGLTSA.
In addition to building a supportive social environment, BOND is active in the areas of education and outreach. We organize various education and outreach events with the goal of building a climate of tolerance and acceptance at Harvard in which sexual orientation is no longer a barrier to social interaction and exchange of ideas. We hope that you will join us for one of our many events throughout the year. Come to meet fun, interesting, and intelligent people who share your interests and experiences. Bring your friends! And yes, the rumors are true: our parties are the best on campus. :)
