Recommended Books

  • Guiner, Lani. Becoming Gentlemen. A terrific study on women's experience at top law schools, Penn specifically.

  • Underhill, Stefan. Majoring in Law. A good basic intro to what being a lawyer is, what law school is like, and the application process. Almost written to a high school level, but good info.

  • Moll, Richard. The Lure of the Law. Great book that consists of a bunch of different interviews with people applying to law school, in law school, just out of law school, experienced lawyers, and people who left the law…gives a lot of perspective of the vast number of things people can do with a law degress, and what people like and dislike about law school and being a lawyer

  • Sells, Benjamin. The Soul of the Law. kind of a downer book that talks about what “thinking like a lawyer” does to someone’s personality…lots of really good insights

  • Kahlenburg, Richard. Broken Contract. written by a Harvard Law Grad around 1990…details how so many people enter Harvard Law School very idealistically and ready to save the world, and come out working for corporate law firms. Pretty scathing picture of HLS, but makes some good points about situational pressures that students should be aware of before they go to any law school, not just Harvard
