Start of Fall Semester 2008
- Aim to have your secondary applications done by the time school starts in the fall.
- Attend interview workshop meeting held by the premed advisors in the fall, and review the ‘Guidelines Part III: Interviews’ packet.
September 2009 through April 2009
February 2009
- If you believe your fall term grades or other new information will be particularly helpful for your application, be sure to get those to the medical schools. Stay in touch with your advisors.
By August, 2009
- Please notify your Advisor and the Office of the Resident Dean of the school you decide to attend!
Timeline for Students Planning to Enter Medical School in Fall 2010
December 2008
- Attend mandatory premed committee meeting to get organized for the application process.
January 2009
- Read through the Guidelines I and II packets carefully. Save this timetable.
- Complete Personal Information Form by February 3. You will not be assigned an advisor/letter-writer until this form has been received by the Office of the Resident Dean.
- Register for Spring MCAT. See www.aamc.org or Office of Resident Dean for forms.
- Request letters of recommendation. Try to have 3-5 by June 1. Have them sent to: Office of the Resident Dean, Cabot House, 60 Linnaean St., Cambridge, MA 02138-7521.
February 3, 2009
- Personal Information Forms due in Office of the Resident Dean. Advisors will be assigned only after your PIF is received. Get to know your advisor. More importantly, let your advisor get to know you!
April - May, 2009
- Spring MCAT. Be sure to notify the Resident Dean’s Office of your scores.
By May 1, 2009
- Pick up AMCAS application materials at OCS. www.aamc.org will have general information about the application.
- Mail letters requesting applications from any non-AMCAS schools.
- Request letters of recommendation from faculty and teaching fellows of second semester courses.
By May 10, 2009
- Meet, at least once, with your premed advisor.
CRITICAL: Before you leave or by June 1st, 2009
- Leave your summer phone, email, and address with Office of the Resident Dean.
- Tell the Resident Dean’s office your MCAT scores and updated GPA calculations.
- Make SURE your PIF is in the Office of the Resident Dean!!!!
- Unlike past years you are not required to supply the Resident Dean's office with addressed and stamped envelopes. Harvard is implementing a new service called VirtualEvals. This is a web-based transmission system for medical school recommendation letters. Letters will be electronically transmitted in PDF form to med schools via a secure system. There are a few exceptions of medical schools who will need you to provide us with stamped envelopes. Please be in touch with Susan Bourneuf sbourn@fas.harvard.edu for details and exceptions.
- All recommendations you have requested should be in the Office of the Resident Dean. It is your responsibility to be sure they arrive!
June 1 – 30, 2009
- AMCAS application completed and submitted. NOT accepted before June 1.
- Send a copy to the Office of the Resident Dean!
By July 31st, 2009
- Non-AMCAS applications completed and mailed.
- Request transcripts from Registrar's Office to be sent to AMCAS and each non-AMCAS school. Recalculate your GPA after your spring semester grades are in and send to Office of the Resident Dean
- Send a copy to the Office of the Resident Dean!
August 2009
- Summer MCAT. (Scores will be sent out 6 - 8 weeks later.)
