Weight Room - JCR, Basement


This recently-expanded, fully stocked weight room contains free weights, benches, racks, stair masters, a stationary recumbent bike, rowing machines, and an elliptical trainer. All new weight equipment was bought in the Spring of 2004. Keys to the room are available from the House Committee. Issues about the weight room should be directed to the Weight Room Czar.

JCR TV Room - F-entry, 1st floor


Updated in the fall of 2005 with a high-quality projector TV with cable, a stereo system, DVD and VCR players, and air conditioning, the JCR TV room is top-notch facility. Attached to the JCR TV room is the Cabot Grille, refurbished and up to code as of the fall of 2005.

Junior Common Room (JCR) - F-entry, 1st floor


The JCR is home to many house events and exhibitions such as the Spring musical, Coffeehouse, and the Dutch Auction. Boasting an elevated stage, pool table, ping-pong table, foosball table, and several couches, it is also a great place to just hang out.

Senior Common Room (SCR) - Barnard Hall, 1st floor


The SCR is a formal common room tucked away in the first floor of Barnard Hall between N and A entries. The SCR is also the name given to a group of Cabot House affiliates including the House masters, administrators, tutors, as well as certain university professors, administrators, and other interested members of the Cambridge community. The House sponsors events throughout the year including dinners, wine and cheese tastings, and colloquia.

House Library - Eliot Hall, 1st floor


Also known as the McCarthy Reading Room, the House Library is a perfect place to study. Open 24-hours, it contains a small but useful collection of reference materials including several encyclopedias and dictionaries, as well as subscriptions to several magazines including The New Yorker, The Economist, and Rolling Stone.

Lansing Room - Bertram Hall, 1st Floor


Located in the first floor of Bertram, the Lansing Room is commonly used as a seminar or reading room. With a few chalkboards and also some window seating, it is a good location for either.

Computer Room - Barnard Hall, Basement


The computer room is open 24-hours with card access. It is home to 2 Macs and 4 PCs, a laser printer, and a flatbed scanner. Please click here with any questions or concerns about the computer room.

Video Library - A-entry, 2nd Floor


Susan Livingston's office is also home of the House Video Library. Click here for a complete listing of available movies. A $10 deposit is required (per person) which you will get back.

Mail Room - Briggs Hall, Basement


Envelope-size mail goes to your mail box here, packages to the building manager's office. For sending mail, there is a University Mail bin outside Susan Livingston's office, a US Mail bin outside the building manager's office, and UPS packages can be left in building manager's office for pickup.

Private Dining Room (PDR) - Dining Hall


Adjacent to the Dining Hall, the PDR is a quieter space for meetings or study. Tutors can reserve the PDR for events from Susan Livingston.

Dining Hall


The heart of the Cabot House community, the dining hall. The fantastic staff at Harvard Dining Services do an incredible job of helping us feel at home. The servery was renovated in the summer of 2002.

TCR or E-007 - Cabot Hall, Basement


  • Previously the location of Celeris, a Quad convenience store, F-001 can be used as a quiet study or meeting place similar to the PDR. F-001 is periodically used by the ART as a rehearsal space, and in return Cabot students get free or discounted tickets to ART productions.

Dance Studio - Bertram Hall, Basement (K-03)


This beautiful dance room has full-length mirrors, fine sprung wood floor, and a full complement of dance bars. The House Office Maintains it as the site for aerobics, jazz dance rehearsals, and martial arts studies. To reserve the room, contact Susan Livingston.

Quad Bikes - Eliot Hall, Basement (I-04)


The non-profit bicycle shop for the Harvard Community, Quad Bikes offers great prices on refurbished bikes, repairs, mechanics classes, and a tool-rental service. It's also one of the best jobs (work-study or non work-study) on campus. Visit www.quadbikes.org for more info.

Living Rooms


Living Rooms are located in each of the six halls. TVs are located in Barnard, Bertram, Briggs, and Whitman. These living rooms, The JCR, and the Private Dining Room must be reserved through the House Office for official events. They are open 24-hours to House members for informal use, unless they have been reserved for an event. Note that the House's quiet hours are 11pm to 11am.

Music Practice Rooms


Pianos are available in five of the six living rooms (all except Eliot Hall) for student practice and performance. The House limits playing between 10am and 10pm. Rooms C01 and N05 in the tunnel system are available for student use by getting a key from the Building Manager.

Kitchens


There are four kitchens in the house for student use: A01, F003, I05A, and K04. Keys are available from the Building Manager's office in exchange for your keycard. Students are required to clean the kitchens after use.

Laundry Rooms


The House has four laundry rooms located in Eliot, Bertram, Briggs, and Whitman Halls. Washing costs $1; Drying costs $1. All the laundry rooms take Crimson Cash. Click here to report a problem with a washer or dryer.

Racks


Bike racks are available in the basements and outside of every one of Cabot's buildings. Cabot is blessed with the largest number of bike racks among all Houses (78 indoor, 280 total), compared with an average at other Houses of 18 indoor and 100 total. Most of the indoor racks are convenient to use, making it easy for you to save yourself headache and money by keeping your bike inside.
