02/06/2005: "China Care Club Conference (February 4-6, 2005)"

In conjunction with the China Care Foundation, this weekend Harvard China Care hosted the China Care Club Conference to help start more university clubs like the ones at Harvard, Brown, and Yale. With close to forty delegates, the conference was a great success! Click below to read more about the weekend...

Panels on the first day aimed to give delegates more background on the orphanage situataion in China. Speakers included an expert occupational therapist, an adoption specialist, a child psychiatrist, and parents who had adopted from China.

On Sunday, panels focused on the actual logistics of starting a club. Harvard China Care (HCC) members Gary Cooney, Jessica Pang, and Aidan Madigan-Curtis discussed their experiences of starting HCC, as well as their volunteer time in China. HCC's 1st president, Gary touched upon the challenges he encountered along the way, but also shared the successes that made it all worthwhile. Jessica spoke of the Dumplings playgroup she piloted last year. Aidan, our current co-President, shared her fundraising savvy and enthusiasm with the delegates. Now, with clubs at not only Harvard, Brown, and Yale, students at universities all over America and Canada will have the wonderful opportunity to touch the lives of orphans in China, one child at a time.

The conference could not have been such a great success without the contributions of the speakers and the generous help of all the volunteers. Thank you so much for all the hard work! Thank you for running around for the food, picking up the delegates from the airport, hosting a delegate in
your room, and so much more. Every little bit of help made a difference!
