Thirty-four orphans live in a decrepit, broken down building that serves as Saiqi's orphanage. The interior is cramped and dirty, and there are few windows. There are few amenities suitable for disabled children, or even simply the normal life of a healthy child. Many of the handicapped kids rarely go outside or see the sunshine. They range in age from a few months to 25 years old. Some are mentally or physically disabled, or both, while others are bright, healthy school-going children.

A single Catholic woman runs the orphanage. In her 20 years at Saiqi, she has cared for over 600 abandoned children and found foster families for the majority of them.

Through the 2006 Halloween "Trick or Treat" fundraiser, Harvard China Care will help Saiqi Orphanage raise the funds for a new building. HCC also supports their operational costs. In 2005, we sent US$24,000 to Saiqi, and we will continue to try to support them as much as possible every year. The much-needed donation goes to food, medicine, supplies, education, and additional nannies.

In the summer of 2005, club president Aidan Madigan-Curtis visited Saiqi Orphanage. She writes of the state of things before and after Saiqi received donations:

Beginning with the summer of 2006, HCC's volunteers lived and worked at Saiqi Orphanage, and we hope to continue this year after year—this is an orphanage with real need, and every pair of hands helps!

HCC is committed to finding these wonderful children the funds required to considerably improve their lives. Our current support includes:
