About Us

What is Harvard CHANCE?

Harvard CHANCE is a Phillips Brooks House mentorship program dedicated to giving high school students the skills, confidence, and support to get into college and to succeed there and beyond.

What does CHANCE stand for?

Our choice for program name is not merely...ahem...accidental. CHANCE stands for College High-school Alliance: A Nexus for Creative Education. Yes, it's a mouthful, but we're serious about what we do.

Where did CHANCE come from?

According to legend, CHANCE was originally started as a program at Duke University in the 1980's. Around 1985, a student from Duke (whose name is forever lost to history) transferred to Harvard and transplanted the program to Cambridge. Since then, Harvard CHANCE has been a fixture in serving the Cambridge community. We celebrated our 25th anniversary in 2010 and are still going strong.
