Fundraising Efforts - How can you help?

Many people do not realize this, but the squad receives only minimal funding from the College. The budget we are given is eaten up by the costs associated with traveling to the away football games. This means there are no funds left for uniforms, poms, warmups, flags, megaphones, operational costs, and most importantly our competition expenses including our trip to Nationals! We rely very heavily on fundraising and donations to keep our organization functioning, thus we sincerely appreciate every contribution we have received in past years. Our patrons give us the motivation to continue training with focus and dedication.

Thanks to your donations, we successfully raised $20,000 to cover our trip to the 2013 NCA National Championships! We must now start again to raise the same amount for 2014! If you want to help us continue the nationals tradition, please read on for the different ways you can support our squad - Every little bit helps!

Friends of Harvard Cheerleading was established during the summer of 1997 to serve as our primary support organization. We rely on our friends contributions for a substantial portion of our budget each year. All Friends receive our bi-annual e-newsletter and are invited to our annual Friends, Family and Alumni game in October of each year to meet current squad members and participate in pre-game activities. Additionally we are increasingly holding events around the country to bring our Friends together to celebrate the success and growth or our program!

2013-2014 Sponsor T-Shirts

Each year we create Sponsor T-shirts that allow our biggest fans to create messages which are displayed right on our backs! We wear these t-shirts at all Football and Basketball Pre-game events and to all competitions. Sponsorship sizes start as low as $25 and can grow to be as large as you want! This is a great way to advertise your business, or simply show your support in a way that the rest of the Harvard Community can see! Click the link below for our official sponsorship form and submit that form and your payment as instructed. All orders must be received by October 15, 2010 to be included on the 2010-2011 T-shirt.

History of the Friends Fund

The Friends fund has been in existence for nearly 10 years, and the differences are immeasurable. In the past the squad has used the money to attend competitions and purchase new uniforms. Donations from Friends of Harvard Cheerleading allow the squad to improve the collegiate appearance of the team through increasing skill level by means of tumbling classes and private coaching from Cheerleading professionals as well as the purchase of items such as flags and signs to aid in the visibility of the squad at games. We continue to thank the Friends of Harvard Cheerleading for giving us the wonderful opportunity to do what we do!

With the help of J. Archer O'Reilly '65 we have revitalized our Friends account and with your donations over the past few years, we have been able to purchase new uniforms and have successfully transformed into a Nationally competitive cheerleading squad! We want to continue to represent at Nationals, as well as purchase more supplies to assist in our efforts to increase spirit on the Harvard campus, therefore we still need your help! If you have donated before, please donate again. If you never have, please take the first step in becoming a Friend of Harvard Cheerleading. The difference you are making for our program is truly invaluable!

To everyone who has contributed to the Friends of Harvard Cheerleading this year and in years past. We could not be the squad that we are today without your help, and we will never be able to fully express our gratitude to you. We especially invite you to come to a game when we are cheering, and we would love to meet the many of you whom we don't already know! We really couldn't do it without you!

"For years, as a faithful attendee of Harvard football, I looked down with admiration at our Harvard cheerleaders doing everything in their power to generate a palpable aura of support for our student athletes. Each year their energy and creative performance have grown and matured. In the last few years I have come to respect them as the talented and dedicated athletes that they are themselves.

Like, I am sure, the majority of alumni who have seen our cheerleaders, I simply assumed that they had the full support of the University. I came to understand that, while they may have the 'moral support' of Harvard, they, in fact, receive very little financial assistance. I was surprised to learn that this is a self-supporting student activity run on a shoestring and personal commitment. Therefore, I was moved to restart Friends of Harvard Cheerleading. With the support of many generous alumni and friends, we have begun to put Harvard Cheerleading on a sound footing and allow them to expand the program and enhance their representation of our University.

I want to thank all those who already helped support Harvard Cheerleading and ask you to join us in rewarding these great young Harvard students to remain the vital "Spirit of Harvard". Please consider making a contribution, large or small, to Friends of Harvard Cheerleading and then bring your voice to the next Harvard athletic contest you attend."
