The New Saturday Puppet Program
In order to provide more enrichment activities for the kids we serve,
we are starting a new Saturday activity program, which will involve
puppet-making, puppeteering skills, drama, and creative writing. This
will give the kids an opportunity to meet other children with
disabilities, and to share their experiences with non-disabled peers.
Our program will use puppets and scripts from the Kids on the Block educational puppetry
program, which was founded in 1977 to help educated non-disabled children
about their disabled peers. It allows children to ask questions about
disabilities to the puppets, who also act out different scenes. Our
program will allow children with disabilities to be directly involved in
the creation and performance of Kids on the Block materials.
