About the Crooners

The Crimson Crooners are the vocal subset of Harvard MIHNUET (Music In Hospitals and Nursing homes Using Entertainment as Therapy)-- a group of friendly singers who perform a range of repertoire (especially oldies and classic favorites) in hospitals and nursing homes around Boston. We are a small non-audition choir made up of Harvard undergrads and community members. We were founded in 1998, and since then both our membership and repertoire have blossomed. Come join the fun - even if you've never sung before, everyone is welcome! MIHNUET organizes excursions to visit with the elderly and ill every Saturday and Sunday, and the Crooners attend the Saturday afternoon performance as a group. Rehearsals usually take place every Saturday morning, and performances are on Saturday afternoon, after lunch.

Some of fun aspects of the Crimson Crooners include:

-performing regularly for audiences that are genuinely moved by our voices, energy and smiles
-the chance to meet talented and caring individuals both within Crooners and the larger MIHNUET
-a very light rehearsal schedule (1.5 hours a week) and weekly opportunities to perform
-a completely varied repertoire, from Broadway to Gospel to Folk
-performing at MIHNUET's Annual Black Tie Recital each February
-performing during Harvard's ARTS FIRST celebration each May

The Crimson Crooners always welcome new members! We are a non-auditon group -- anyone who wants to sing is welcome, and our singers range from members of Harvard's a cappella groups and the Holden choruses to instrumentalists and others who have never sung before. The Vocal Chairs are Amy (amlin@college) and Kevin (kiskah@college). Feel free to sign up for the email list here: http://lists.hcs.harvard.edu/mailman/listinfo/mihnuet-crooner. You can also join our Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2200056288&v.

To become an official member of MIHNUET and the Crimson Crooners, a Crooner must attend at least three performances per semester (which is not difficult, as performances happen almost every weekend!). Members get to perform in MIHNUET's annual Black Tie Recital in February, and in ARTSFirst in May. MIHNUET also hosts social events where MIHNUET members can get to know each other better, such as free Bubble Tea afternoons and the annual members' banquet. At the end of the semester, MIHNUET's most dedicated volunteers (those who attend 6 or more performances per semester) are recognized with Platinum Membership.
