At the core of our organization is a closely knit group
of undergraduate student volunteers from Harvard University in Cambridge
and Tufts University in Medford. While we may have disparate backgrounds
in service work, personal background, and academic interest,
we are united by a common concern for our clients and the issues facing
them. And if you ever happened into one of our meetings, you'd know that
we are also united by our energy, our friendship, and (some would argue)
our goofiness.
Although CSP volunteers are a cohesive unit, there
are two primary volunteer categories: the Client Service Representative
and the Business Board Associate. National Student Partnerships also has
a long tradition of student leadership dating to its 1998 inception, so
volunteers often find themselves in leadership roles as well.
What do CSP volunteers do? (Client Service Representative)
Client Service Representatives (CSRs) meet with clients in our office
in Central Square and assist them with a number of issues, from affordable
housing to child care. CSRs write resumes and cover letters, make calls
to employers and transitional housing programs, connect clients with degree
programs and financial aid options, assist with client outreach, and provide
listening and
support. Because CSP has such a broad range of available services, CSRs
need to be readily familiar with the variety of services provided for
individuals in and around Cambridge.
What do CSP volunteers do? (Business Board Associate)
Business Board Associates envision and implement fundraising measures
for CSP and maintain relationships with area businesses that provide employment
for CSP clients. WHAT ELSE?!?!
Why should I become a CSP volunteer?
Because you share our fundamental concern for people, our ambition to
make a difference, our commitment to bridge the gap between college students
and community members, our belief in the power of a one-on-one relationship
with clients, our curiosity about the world of social work and social
policy, our dire need to have someone intelligent and inspriring write
content for this website, and possibly our approbation of rooster mascots.
How do I become a CSP volunteer?
Due to the extensive knowledge required of CSP volunteers, we require
that all new volunteers undergo extensive training and make a prolonged
commitment to the organization. However, you have a lot you can contribute
to CSP (whether or not you know it), and we would love for you to be a
part of CSP! Please don't hesitate to email
us for more information.
