HMF Log: 10/24/04 The B Team went to the Wheaton College sponsored "Lemony Fresh" Tournament on Saturday. Much to the surprise of everyone that was involved, the tournament was not at wheaton, but at a park in Rhode Island, completely unrelated to wheaton . . . . go figure. We had a first round bye, assembled at 8 at kirkland, 13 guys, 2 cars, but cramped space was not all that was instore for the bred line on that drive. We decided to play Bottacheli to keep our mind off of our cramping legs, unfortunately for us, this game managed to keep Jimmy Sun's mind off of the road. Lets thank gabe for pointing out that we were on 95 NORTH, instead of South, or else jimmy might have taken us to Bowdoin. Half the team, driven by AJ, got there on time and got ready to play savage, Jimmy's car finally arrived with a few minutes to warmup for a game against fordham. The day is cold and dam windy, making zones and turns very likely for all teams. We find out that not only is Wheaton's tournament no where near wheaton but games are to be played to 11 and are apparently going to be capped entirely to quickly. The game begins, we come out a little flat, didn't deal with Fordham's zone to well, making poor throws and poor grabs. They take half 6 - 1. Teddy Chestnut delivers a fiery halftime shout and we come out with much more intensity. The Bredline begins to play the way we know we can and cut the deficit to 7 - 5. Then the bullshit sets in, our game is capped, game to 8, the score a cheap one, and somehow the bredline is down a game while only giving up 8 points. Too bad for our cold first half but after our late run we know are hungry for more Our next game is against Roger Williams college. This team played a split stack offense, which works well for them. They have a very nasty handler, Teddy "red sleeves" something (Apparently hes knows our Eric and wants me to say hi, Hi eric), His left forehands and sick high release backhands give RW and early lead. We make some small runs they answer back and forth until 10 - 7. At this we really start to play. The next three points take about 45 minutes and all of our energy, we pull it to 10 - 9 and play a 20 minute 20th point. Incedibly the point ends by a steve koren hammer to Gabe (?). What a huge point. The last point is another douzy, though we manage to get a couple turns they manage to put in their 11th point. Hats off to RW, they were a great bunch of guys and played very hard. Great fucking game for us, huge comeback, sick D, chilly O, RW guys were getting injured left and right, we kept our cool. RW next plays Fordham and is promptly spanked because they are so dam tired. We play trinity college, more fucked up tournament rules, this game is a lightning round scheduled for 30 minutes. They come out and get 2 points on us, we answer with one of our own. Without getting into this too much . . . they (mostly 2 of their players) are dicks. This fact is agreed upon by the other teams in our pool. Words are exchanged, after their player is covered like a rug by skoren, decides to slow up after the handler looks him off, while slowing up gets tangled with steve and gets pissed off about it. lets leave it at that. This game is capped at 5, yes 5 points, we lose 5 - 3. It was shorter than an IM game, but somehow it counts. At this point we are a little pissed about the fact that we have only had one semi full game but are still happy about our intensity. Everyone is playing extremely hard at this point. Our freshmen especially, Jei, Phil, Eli, Dave Lipson, leave it all out of the field and are making our opponents wish they had them. We play wentworth in our consolation game. This game is largely relaxed, they know we are better than them, so do we. The teams agrees to do the Crimson Crimson Crimson Flow cheer in honor of Quasar who agrees to have a van stay behind to help us out with transportation. So we take wentworth by the score of 15 10 or something like that. My highlight of the game is a throw by AJ to gabe, gabe dives to where the frisbee would be, little does he know that his speed/dive combination causes the frisbee to rise a good 5 feet directly over his layout. We all watch in awe and the disc goes from perfectly into his hands to well over his head. Go Figure Not the best tournament from a results or organization standpoint but we do hold seed after we ask to be in the A division. Its clear that Bredline is going to have a great spring. We know that this year is the year when we teach the A teams of the NE who the we are, and make all B teams go and hide. Consult the tournament photos (check out the layouts) and individuals players for details. (written by Frank Heydari '07)
