echo is a peer counseling group that addresses concerns surrounding eating, body image, and self-esteem.

echo staffers are trained undergraduates who provide non-judgmental support, both for those dealing with these issues and those who are concerned about a friend, roommate, significant other or family member. along with offering drop-in hours and a hotline, echo plans and produces outreach events for the community.


examples of the types of calls and drop-ins echo might receive:

"How I feel about myself depends almost entirely upon how I feel about how I look."

"I can't go a day without exercising."

"Midterms are coming up and I'm so stressed..."

"I'm really concerned about gaining the freshman fifteen and what everyone will think."

"My roommate is getting extremely thin. I'm worried."

"I ate the whole box of cookies. I just couldn't stop."

"I feel fat."

"The race is in a week; I'm only doing this because I have to lose weight for the big day."

"Food is my only dependable source of satisfaction."

"My boyfriend made a comment about my weight."

"I don't even know what a normal diet is anymore."

"Bingeing gives me a sense of security."

"My friend is extremely concerned about her appearance. I don't know what to say."

"Food has become an obsession. I'm losing control over my life and I feel scared and helpless."

"I just want to learn more about echo and eating concerns."

this is just a sampling of the concerns and questions echo addresses during calls, drop-ins, and outreaches. no call is too trivial or unimportant. if it is bothering you, that is reason enough to call echo.
