History
The Franklin I-O Summer Program began in 1981 as the Intergenerational Outreach Summer Youth Program. As the program grew, concerns emerged that would ultimately cause Franklin I-O to recruit campers exclusively from the Franklin Hill and Franklin Field housing developments. For the past 23 years, Franklin I-O has endeavored to act as a partner in developing community resources and forging a unified voice for the Franklin community. As gang violence emerged as an issue in the early 1990s and rivalries between the two neighborhoods deepened, our mission expanded to address the problem of turf based violence by providing an environment for the growth of friendship among the youth of the Franklin community.
