Zuneral this Saturday!

We regret to report the sudden, unexpected death of Digital Rights Management. Details of the tragedy at present remain unclear, but he was rushed to the hospital following a direct collision with an oncoming future last week at 10 PM. He was seven years old.

Yesterday, in preparation of the public funeral that will take place this Saturday, members of Harvard College Free Culture entombed the recently-deceased Digital Rights Management in Quincy Courtyard at around 5 PM. As part of the healing process, all the attendees took part in saying goodbye to DRM by constructing its coffin.

The decedents are encased into their pourable-but-not-too-liquidy coffin

The final funeral and burial services for the recently deceased will take place at 6:30 PM on Saturday, May 24th in Cambridge’s JFK Park. A reception will follow to give attendees the chance to reminisce of the short life and accomplishments of DRM and to grieve together.

(Harvard College Free Culture would like to thank Rachel and Jason for their Zune and iPod, respectively. We are sorry for your loss.)

This is great. I can’t believe you actually buried the Zune and the iPod.

Did DRM really die?! This is great news!

Sounds like the only good thing to do with DRM encumbered things.

I would have preferred a cremation! It would’ve been ironic - unlike in life, in death they can freely burn…

You guys are fucking losers, it is too bad that there are dumbasses like yourselves that are willing to not only destroy your things for no reason, but even worse, that there are people that have nothing better to do than go to and waste their time on “Mass” for stupid shit like this. I bet your parents are proud, their children went to a prestigious school but they have no fucking life….way to go.

    Jeremy,

Way to go in not even using a last name or website link. Mass = Massachusetts you moron. You know, the place where Boston, Cambridge and Harvard just happen to be?

Secondly, if perhaps you weren’t such a troll online you’d know more about these people, their social lives and that they are all pretty freaking active socially and in the community. Probably far more than you.

    Jermey,

You totally missed the point. Let me bring you up to speed on the latest events:

    1) Apple’s online music store has reached such high sales volumes that Apple can now dictate terms to the Record Companies. The only way the record companies can counter Apple is to offer DRM-free downloads that work on players OTHER than the ipod. They’ve already started. Check the past two weeks of posts on Digg.com

    2) A major study on DRM and Piracy paid for by the big Record Companies was published last week. Biggest finding - Effect of DRM on reducing piracy: Zero.

    It’s over.

As soon as one company launches DRM free online music (already in progress) the others have to follow or they take a massive hit to sales.

Up next: Movies online. (Give it 12 to 24 months)

Video would be ever so wonderful - wish I could have been there to witness the event.

its great that DRM is dead.. but there’s something else that’s bigger than it that is ready to replace it.. look up the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement or ACTA in short.. our sold out Governments are still trying to cage us in even more.
