Jillian Demair

President
Hello and welcome to the residence halls! I'm Jillian, and I’m excited to be returning for my second term as president of the GDC. I’m a third-year PhD student in Germanic Languages and Literatures from New Jersey. I enjoy traveling, especially to German-speaking countries, but I also like to occupy my time with a good book as often as I can. I love many different kinds of music, and play the saxophone in the Dudley House Jazz Band. I hope you will take advantage of the many opportunities to get involved with student life here at Harvard. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about the GDC or life at Harvard!
Dima Mironenko

Vice President
Welcome to Harvard and to GSAS Residence Halls! My name is Dima and I will be serving as the GDC vice-president for 2009-2010. Previously, I have served on the social committee for my department, as well as a Social Dudley Fellow. I hope to use this experience to make your stay in the dorms fun-filled and enjoyable with many fun events we are preparing for you this year. I am G5/D3 in East Asian Languages & Civilizations working on North Korean film in the 1950s. My two passions are East Asian culture and cinema, especially arthouse and avant-garde fare. If you'd like to chat about movies or have a tea ceremony with me, stop by Child 4th anytime!

Welcome everyone! My name is Rikako and I am your social coordinator this year. I am in my second year for the Master of Architecture at the GSD. I am from Yokohama, Japan, and I enjoy travel, piano, and photography. I am very excited to meet all of you! We'll have great social events this year!

Gregory Kestin

Social Coordinator
Hi, my name is Greg. I am the 2009-2010 social coordinator. This is my second year in the physics Ph.D. program; specifically I'm interested theoretical particle/high-energy physics. While physics is what I do in my spare time (which, incidentally, is most of my time), I spend as much time as I can doing stand-up comedy. We are going to have an awesomely fun year. I want to get your input on what events you would like, but some of my ideas are: desert parties, comedy club show/outing, repelling/climbing/hiking and paintball.

Tyler Gibson

Webmaster
My name is Tyler and I'm the new webmaster. I've lived all over the United States, but grew up mostly in the Carolinas. As a student, I work on the mechanics, geometry, and genetics of proliferating cell sheets. Outside of work, I can be found in Dudley House, in the Fenway, or at discrete, random events distributed across the Boston area. I look forward to serving the GDC.

Stephanie Tam

Public Service Officer
I'm entering my third year of the MArch I program at the GSD, and am very excited to serve as the Pubic Service Officer this year. Having experienced non-profit and relief projects in local, national and international settings, my main interests are the role of NPOs, the impact and effectiveness of non-profit projects, and the social capacity of responsible design. I look forward to meeting all of you at Dudley meals and GDC events!

Video Librarian
Hello, My name is Hossein and I'm a 2nd year PhD student of Electrical Engineering from Tabriz, Iran. I'm a fan of international and multicultural environments and of course I love movies, especially diverse movies from all cultures around the world! So, as this year's video librarian I have tried to design a new delivery system for our DVD library and hopefully you'll be able to order movies online and receive them right in your mailbox. I hope we can help you enjoy a wonderful time in residence halls!

Irene Bredberg

Movie Officer
Hey! My name is Irene and this coming year I'll be the GDC's movie officer. That means that I'm going to host movie nights in one of the dorms a couple of times a term - each one featuring a well selected movie! Here at Harvard I'm studying for a PhD in theoretical physics. I grew up in Sweden but before coming to Harvard I spent five years studying in England. I love talking, shopping and just hanging out.

Deriba Olana

Equipment Officer
Greetings! My name is Deriba Olana and am from Ethiopia. At the moment, I am a PhD student in computational neuroscience. When not dealing with academics, you likely will find me playing music at church or listening to something melodic in my room or at Symphony Hall. As your equipment officer, I will do my best to ensure our dorm multimedia facilities are working well. Welcome to the GSAS dorms!

RA Liason
Hi, I'm Sorell. As a proud North Carolinian, I'm a connoisseur of the finest southern foods: sweet tea, NC BBQ and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. My studies center upon Soft Condensed Matter (squishy physics) and I'm in my second year in Applied Physics Program. Also, I'm a member of the Harvard Tae-Kwon-Do and I play guitar in my spare time. This year I'll be serving as your RA Liaison to the GDC! My role is to represent the RA staff and housing office in the GDC as well as to keep them informed of the wonderful things happening with the council. I look forward to seeing you at the meetings.
