Directions

By Car

If driving, we recommend parking in the Eliot Street Garage. Walking directions from the Eliot Street Garage to the IOP Forum and to Harvard Hall are below.

Route 128 or the Massachusetts Turnpike :

  1. Take Route 128 to the Mass. Pike East.
  2. Take Mass. Pike East to Cambridge/Brighton Exit #18 (a left hand exit).
  3. After toll booth, bear right (toward Cambridge ).
  4. At the second traffic light, turn left (just before crossing the river) and proceed straight through one traffic light onto Storrow Drive (heading west, out of the city).
  5. Take the next right at the exit marked " Harvard Square " and follow it across the Charles River .
  6. Go straight through traffic light at end of bridge (crossing Memorial Drive ) and you will now be on John F. Kennedy Street . The Kennedy School of Government is the first building on your left.
  7. At next traffic light, turn left onto Eliot Street . Finding metered parking is extremely difficult in Harvard Square . If you are unable to find street parking, we suggest using public parking at the Eliot Street Garage (on the right, just after you turn onto Eliot Street ), or at the Charles Hotel garage (further down Eliot Street on the left).

Routes 95, 1 or 93 (North) :

  1. Follow Route 95 South to the Peabody ( Mass. ) area and switch on to Route 1 South. Route 1 continues for several miles, crosses the Tobin Bridge and then merges with Route 93 South. Immediately after this merge, take the right hand exit to Storrow Drive (Exit 26) and follow signs for Storrow Drive West .
  2. Stay on Storrow Drive for roughly 4 miles. For landmarks, you will pass the "Massachusetts Avenue/Cambridge" exit and then the Guest Quarters Hotel. Stay on Storrow Drive .
  3. Directly after the Guest Quarters you will see a right hand exit marked " Harvard Square ." Take the exit and follow it to the right, across the river. Go straight through the traffic light at end of bridge (crossing Memorial Drive ) and you will now be on John F. Kennedy Street . The Kennedy School of Government is the first building on your left.
  4. At next traffic light, turn left onto Eliot Street . Finding metered parking is extremely difficult in Harvard Square . If you are unable to find street parking, we suggest using public parking at the Eliot Street Garage (on the right, just after you turn onto Eliot Street ), or at the Charles Hotel garage (further down Eliot Street on the left).

Route 2 :

  1. Follow Route 2 East into Cambridge and stay on it as it changes from a major highway to a four-lane thoroughfare. It will become the Alewife Brook Parkway , then the Fresh Pond Parkway and eventually Memorial Drive , but will still be marked as Route 2 East.
  2. Turn left on Memorial Drive (at the Charles River ) and shortly thereafter, turn left again at the sign marked " Harvard Square ," which is John F. Kennedy Street . The first building on your left is the Kennedy School .
  3. At next traffic light, turn left onto Eliot Street . Finding metered parking is extremely difficult in Harvard Square . If you are unable to find street parking, we suggest using public parking at the Eliot Street Garage (on the right, just after you turn onto Eliot Street ), or at the Charles Hotel garage (further down Eliot Street on the left).

Walking to the IOP: From Eliot Street Garage exit, walk straight down JFK Street towards Charles River . Go to the main entrance of the Kennedy School (halfway down the block on the right). The Forum is just inside the main entrance to the Kennedy School ; the Institute of Politics is located through the maroon double doors immediately to the right.

Walking to Harvard Hall: From Eliot Street Garage exit, turn left on JFK Street and walk towards Harvard Square (You will pass Staples, Pete's Coffee, and a CVS on your left). Once in Harvard Square (you will see the T-stop and the kiosk for “Out of Town News”), cross to Massachusetts Avenue (behind Out of Town News) and turn left so that you are walking up Mass Ave with Harvard Yard on your right. Enter Johnston Gate (the main gate- across from the First Church Unitarian). Harvard Hall is the building on your immediate left.

Take the MBTA Red Line to Harvard Square Station.

Walking to the IOP Forum

  1. Exit station and turn left onto John F. Kennedy Street .
  2. Walk down the right hand side of JFK Street toward the Charles River .
  3. The last street you will cross is Eliot Street .
  4. After you cross Eliot Street , the Kennedy School will be the brick building on the right. The main entrance is halfway down the block on the right. The Forum is just inside the main entrance to the Kennedy School ; the Institute of Politics is located through the maroon double doors immediately to the right.

Walking to Harvard Hall

Exit the main station and cross Massachusetts Avenue (behind Out of Town News) so that Harvard Yard is on your right. Walk up Mass Ave until you arrive at Johnston Gate (the main gate to Harvard Yard). Harvard Hall is the building immediately to your left upon entering Johnston Gate.
