Quote of the week...

"We count ourselves blessed to have soldiers like Sergeant Smith, who put their lives on the line to advance the cause of freedom and protect the American people."

- President Bush, awarding the first Medal of Honor in the war on terror to Sergeant First Class Paul Ray Smith, who was killed saving more than 100 American soldiers from death in a Republican Guard ambush.

I. General Meeting - Wednesday! - Our next general meeting is this Wednesday at 10 PM in the Winthrop Tonkens Room. Come for food, drinks and activities!! For your calendars, additional general meetings are tentatively scheduled for April 20th and May 4th.

II. MACR Convention - RSVP to Vote for Mike! - Mike Miltenberger is running to be the next chair of the Massachusetts Alliance of College Republicans, and we need you to come vote for him! The convention runs from noon this Saturday to Sunday morning, and is at the Hyatt Harborside Hotel. We're going to have a party and boat cruise Saturday night, and invited speakers include WH Chief of Staff Andrew Card, Governor Mitt Romney, Grover Norquist and others. HRC is subsidizing this event to reduce the cost to $35/person, which includes the cruise and a hotel room. RSVP right away to Meghan (mgrizzle@fas).

III. HRC IOP Summer Stipend Workshop - April 11th - John Souther is conducting a workshop on applications for the IOP Summer Stipend on Monday April 11th starting at 5 PM in the Quincy JCR. Sample essays and help with the application will be provided, and there will be pizza too! The stipend applications are due right after that (the 15th), so this should be helpful for those of you who have been putting it off.

IV. HPU Thursday - "Harvard and Social Justice" - HPU's topic of the week is "Harvard and Social Justice" - what, if anything, is Harvard's role in promoting social justice outside of the Harvard campus? Come debate your fellow students at 6:00 on Thursday in the IOP First Floor Conference Room. Contact Vivek (ramasw@fas) with questions.

V. Sen. Brownback at the Law School - April 15th! - U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) will speak at the HLS Society for Law, Life & Religion symposium on human cloning and stem cell research next Friday, April 15th at 1:30 in the HLS Langdell Hall North Classroom. Sen. Brownback is the author of the "Human Cloning Prohibition Act" and a possible contender in the 2008 presidential election. For more information contact the society at sllr@law.harvard.edu.

VI. Become a House Rep - We are still looking for volunteers in a few houses to be House Reps. You will be responsible for finding Republicans in your House and getting them to come to social events and General Meetings. You will get a budget to throw mini-events every semester. We still need House Reps in Dunster, Leverett, Lowell and Pfoho. Let John (souther@fas) know if you are interested.

VII. Get Your New HRC T-Shirt! - T-shirts are $10 and can be purchased from John Souther; email him at souther@fas.harvard.edu. To see the design for yourself, go to: http://hcs.harvard.edu/~gop/hrc_merchandise.html
