There's
a lot going on right now. Hold on to your seats.
I. Freshman
Member-at-Large Elections (and General Meeting) -
Wednesday! - Now
that the Class of 2009 has settled into classes, it's time
to elect a Freshman Member-at-Large. This is a full
executive position (one of seven) charged with
communicating freshman concerns to the HRC leadership as
well as assisting with all other executive functions. The
position runs through next September and requires a
substantial commitment.
The
election will take place just after our General
Meeting, which is this Wednesday at 10 PM in the Winthrop
Tonkens Room in Winthrop House. Because of the
location change, freshmen should meet at the John Harvard
statue at 9:45 as we did last meeting. The
Freshman MAL elections will begin in the same location between
10:45 and 11 PM and will last no longer than 30
minutes. Candidates should expect to deliver a
very brief speech and to field one or two brief questions
from the audience.
To
learn more about what the position entails, contact
outgoing Freshman MAL Michael Miltenberger (mmiltenb@fas)
or former Freshman MAL Stephen Dewey (sdewey@fas).
To
run in the election, you must be a dues-paid member of
the Class of 2009. To vote in the election, you must be
a dues-paid undergraduate. You may pay dues at the general
meeting. Specific election procedures will be implemented
by a three-member election commission headed by Zachary
Singer (singer@fas),
to whom all related questions should be directed.
Campaigning prior to the election is allowed, but the use
of unsolicited email (including email over discussion
lists) is prohibited and may result in disqualification.
II.
Conservative Women's Conference - PREREGISTER NOW!
- The Conservative Women's Caucus is proud to present "Right
Here, Right Now: A Conservative Women's Conference." This
is Harvard's first such conference, and will take place in
under two weeks (Friday October 14th and Saturday October
15th). Panel topics include: Sex, Lies and
Feminism; Balancing Family and Public Service; and Women
and Foreign Policies. To gain access to dinners,
receptions and lunch roundtables, preregister at
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s
III.
HRC Trip to DC - RESERVE YOUR SEAT!
- In just one month, HRC will take our first-ever club
trip to Washington D.C.! Our itinerary will include time
for meeting with important players in the GOP and
Washington politics, sightseeing and socializing. We'll
fly down the morning of Thursday, Nov. 3rd and fly back
the evening of Saturday, Nov. 5th. To reserve your seat,
email Stephen (sdewey@fas)
and bring a $50 deposit to the general meeting on
Wednesday. Our goal pending IOP funding is to make $50 the
TOTAL per person cost. However
you need to act quickly because we will probably have to
cap the trip at around 30 seats. Please note that
the $50 deposit is not refundable.
IV.
Activism Meeting - Tuesday at 6 - The activism
division will have its next meeting this Tuesday at 7 PM
in the Kirkland Dining Hall. We'll be planning our efforts
for the next one to two weeks. Questions, email Stephen (sdewey@fas).

Support Operation Offset -
"Operation Offset" is a courageous effort
launched by members of the Republican Study Committee to
pay for relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina by cutting
unnecessary spending from the federal budget. The RSC is
standing up for the basic Republican value of responsible
government spending, and deserves your support. You can
