Quote of the week...

"[Judge Alito] has a very good temperament. ...he's very smart, and has impressed a lot of people. The President said he was going to appoint somebody who is conservative, and that's the way he campaigned, and that's what we have here. I think he's very highly regarded."

- Senator John McCain (R-AZ) on MSNBC's "Imus In The Morning" Monday morning (10-31)

TOP PHOTO: HRC Members tailgate outside the Harvard football game versus Dartmouth this past Saturday. A lot of people showed up despite the cold, and we had lots of good stuff to eat and drink. Special thanks to Steven Seidel, Jeff Biddle and Adam Benitez for organizing the tailgate. (Photo by HRC Membership Director Meghan Grizzle)

Alito is Bush's replacement for Harriet Miers who dropped out of the running last week, and has received enthusiastic praise from conservatives. (AP Photo/Ron Edmonds)

I. Yellow Ribbon Study Break - Tuesday! - Join MASH (Military Appreciation and Support at Harvard) for a study break this Tuesday (11/1) at 6 PM in the Lowell JCR. We'll have a brief update on the MASH campaign for our sponsored platoon, then we'll break out pizza and drinks and make our yellow ribbons while watching Family Guy. For details contact Andrea Nosal (amnosal@fas).

II. Join the "Confirm Alito" Facebook Group! - Join the "Confirm Alito" facebook group to show your support for President Bush's new nominee to the Supreme Court! You can search for "Confirm Alito" or visit http://www.facebook.com/group_profile.php?gid=19178 once you're logged in. If you want to become an admin to invite your friends, email John Wilson (jwilson@fas).

III. Volunteer to Table For Our Platoon! - MASH is sponsoring a platoon of troops and needs tabling volunteers. We need at least one person from each house willing to table next Wednesday and/or Thursday, as well as 5-6 people to table in front of the Science Center. To volunteer, contact Andrea Nosal (amnosal@fas).

IV. HRC General Meeting POSTPONED to Wed. Nov. 9 - HRC's next general meeting has been postponed to Wednesday, November 9th at 10 PM in the Winthrop Tonkens Room, due to our Washington DC trip this week.

V. Condoleeza Rice Communications Director - Tuesday - Anna Perez, former communications director for both Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and Barbara Bush will visit the IOP for a study group this Tuesday (11/1) from 4 to 5:30 in the faculty dining room. Ms. Perez will present a conservative perspective on strategic communications.

VI. HRC Blog Launch Soon - HRC will launch our blog sometime this week. We had to postpone work on it slightly due to extensive preparations for our trip to Washington DC. Look for a gop-announce email soon and a mention in the next HRC Weekly.

VII. Gaylord Study Group - Wednesdays - Joe Gaylord, the author of the Contract with America and the 1994 campaign manager of the year, will be leading a study group at the IOP every Wednesday at 4:00pm. He will be discussing how to win campaigns in the 21st century from both a candidate and a strategist perspective. We encourage you all to participate.

VIII. Buy a T-Shirt - You can buy an HRC T-shirt for $10 by emailing John Souther at souther@fas.harvard.edu to arrange for payment and shipping/pickup.

IX. Pay Dues - If you haven't paid your $5 dues for the year yet, you can do so by mailing it with your name and email address to Meghan Grizzle, 195 Leverett Mail Center, Cambridge, MA 02138. Paying dues gets you a membership card, priority in our events and other benefits.
