I. MASH Event - Tuesday - Join us this Tuesday, May 2, for "Through the Eyes of Soldiers," a discussion led by student veterans on their experiences serving this nation at home and abroad. Hear the perspectives of Harvard students who have served in the American and European militaries during Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as students who participate in ROTC and will soon be officers in the American military. The event will take place at 8pm in Emerson 105. For more information, contact Ryan (delany@fas) or Andrea (amnosal@fas).
II. Republicans for Traditional Values Discussion - Wednesday - In his new book, Manliness, Professor Harvey Mansfield discusses the suppression of manliness in today's "gender-neutral" society. Join the Republicans for Traditional Values for a roundtable and friendly discussion of "Manliness and the Traditional Family" this Wednesday, May 3, at 5pm in the Leverett Private Dining Room. Contact Chris (clacaria@fas) for more information.
III. Board Meeting - Wednesday - Mark your calendars for our general board meeting this Wednesday, May 3, at 10pm in the Leverett JCR. Feel free to come even if you're not on the general board. Questions? Contact Stephen (sdewey@fas).
IV. Diversity Conference - Sunday - This Sunday, May 7, Harvard will host an afternoon of intriguing panels, lively town halls, and enlightening discussions on diversity issues pertinent to both Harvard and the country at large. Co-sponsored by the HRC, the Harvard Foundation for Race Relations, and a number of other Harvard student organizations, the conference begins at noon in Boylston Hall and runs throughout the afternoon. Questions? Contact Jeff (jkwong@fas).
V. Frances Townsend Address - Tuesday - This Tuesday, May 2, Frances Townsend, Assistant to President Bush for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, will deliver a public address on "Transforming National Preparedness" at Harvard. The event will take place at 6pm in the IOP Forum.
VI. Join the Conservative Book Club! - Throughout May, the conservative book club will be reading Manliness by Harvard's own Harvey Mansfield. It's not too late to join! We are also in the process of planning a catered dinner discussion with Professor Mansfield himself. E-mail Ryan (rmccaffr@fas) to join, and purchase your copy of Manliness from Ryan or on the Book Club's website: http://hcs.harvard.edu/~gop/cons_book_club.html.
VII. Habitat Bike Challenge - HRC board member Matt Schrimpf will be representing Harvard and the HRC this summer in the Habitat Bike Challenge, riding 4,000 miles across the country to raise money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity. His goal is to raise a dollar for each mile of the ride. All donations will help to eliminate poverty housing and are greatly appreciated! E-mail Matt at schrimpf@fas.harvard.edu for more information, or donate online at http://www.yale.edu/habitat/donate.html.
VIII. Job Opportunities in Governor Romney's Office - The Office of the Governor has several full-time paid entry-level employment opportunities, including a Constituent Services Aide and Correspondence Aide, for current college seniors interested in serving in the Administration. To apply, send a resume and cover letter to David DeSousa, Director of Human Resources for the Office of the Governor, at David.J.Desousa@state.ma.us. Questions should also be directed to this address.
IX. Buy a T-Shirt - You can buy an HRC T-shirt for $10 by emailing Mark Shepard at mshepard@fas.harvard.edu to arrange for payment and shipping/pickup.
X. Pay Dues - If you haven't paid your $5 dues for the year yet, you can do so by mailing it with your name and email address to Jeffrey Kwong, 1774 Harvard Yard Mail Center, Cambridge, MA 02138. Paying dues gets you a membership card, priority in our events, and other benefits.
